  1. Does any one have any knowledge of how #Japanese #k12 #schools do the equivalent of #ESOL (#ESL) in the USA? #JSOL, if you will.

    When I was there, there really wasn't much JSOL in #Ishikawa. I think the very few non-Japanese speaking students had a special class at an elementary school once every week or two, but that was it.

    My dream next job would be to work with cities and ToDoFuKen in #Japan to set up systems for identifying and supporting #EMEB students in k12 schools.

  2. Before I forget - what is the situation for #JSOL in Japan these days?

    JSOL = Japanese for Speakers of Other Languages. I'm not sure what they really call it in Japan.

    When I was there, non-Japanese speaking elementary students all had one class once a month at an elementary school - not their home school, necessarily.

    Surely the situation has to be better than that by now?
