Jazzfest postscript: BC Coogan at the Saturn Bar. A weekly solo piano gig for several years. Coogan played songs by Allen Toussaint, Smiley Lewis, Earl King, George Duke, Willie Nelson, Thelonious Monk and Beethoven, weaving it all together seamlessly. This gig is something special. Every time I catch it I feel like I'm in on one of New Orleans' best kept secrets. A great way to spend my last night in town!

Yesterday's #Jazzfest photoset: Jon Batiste was a standout with his Swamp song: "They're burning the planet down - it's the chemicals!" David Byrne was wonderful as always, Big Chief, Rod Stewart - fanciness abounded.

Jazzfest day 4 highlights, part 1: tribute to Marcia Ball with the Marcia Ball Band, Sue Foley, Carolyn Wonderland, John Cleary, Terrance Simien and more.
Longtime Jazzfest favorite Marcia Ball, recently diagnosed with ALS, was hanging out on stage throughout this emotional and moving tribute set. Ms. Ball surprised everyone when she sat down at the piano to play a song, with tears flowing and raucous applause everywhere in the Blues Tent.

A former NC law enforcement officer was arrested with a handgun & 200+ rounds of ammo at a Florida hotel — allegedly headed to commit a racially motivated mass shooting at a major Louisiana festival. Christopher Gillum, who is white, had allegedly expressed explicit threats to harm Black people. His own family reported him missing and tipped off police. Jazz Fest draws 460,000+ attendees.
