  1. :The is an architectural sound art object located in Zadar, and an experimental musical instrument, which plays music by way of sea waves and tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps.

They are designed as a group of pipes that run under large marble stairs, and the sea waves create air pressure that produces random but fairly harmoniously arranged tones in the pipes.

  6. I have all sorts of mixed feelings about this piece, some arising from the music itself, others emerging from a web of personal associations, passions, and uncertainties.

Is this great music or something more like an elaborate firework display? Does this question even have a sensible answer?

When I looked at these, they reminded me of a musical instrument, especially the way that they fanned out like organ pipes, and it amused me to think of what sort of noise they would make if they were played.
I imagine it would be a cross between a harp (by plucking the "string" stalks) and maracas (by shaking the seed heads at the top).

Gave me some fun, anyway, and that has been thin on the ground this week.

  8. Musical Interlude: More Saint-Saëns! I just have to throw in this last bit. When I first heard it many years ago, I thought it sounded impossibly Gothic, like something from a horror film....but then I turn around and it was used as the theme for sweet film "Babe"! (Remember that nice movie with the talking pig?) Anyway, here it is...judge for yourself...

  9. NP: symphony. Yes, of course I'll put the loud bit on repeat for a bit once we get there.

  10. So lovely. It has been a long time since I have listened to #JordiSavall. I just acquired two of his albums.

  14. #lft, aka #lftkryo, aka #LinusÅkesson has created another wonderful mix of #8bit #homecomputer hardware and #classicalMusic #instruments.

After the construction of the #Chipophone in 2010, he had a #springReverb tank lying around:

Time will tell if I ever get around to doing this, but it bugs me that I have a perfectly good spring reverb tank just laying around.

Now, a bit more than a decade later, he's created the #sixtyforgan (sixty-four-organ) in which he uses the spring reverb tank to turn the basic waveforms of the #Commodore64 into realtime church organ like music.

More background info on Linus Åkesson's sixtyforgan website, as well as an introductory video to the sixtyforgan on YouTube and a video performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's "Ich Ruf' zu dir" Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis 639 by Linus Åkesson on his SixtyForgan on YouTube.
