One of my cherished digital treasures is a recording of an improvisation about the #piratesOfTheCarribean theme done by #GertVanHoef on the #organ of St. Bartholomew's
in Geraardsbergen Belgium.
It has since disappeared on youtube but I have a local copy and it still cheers me up every time I watch it. It is wild and beautiful and being able to watch the artist and his wife working on the performance is really interesting.
We really need to download and archive everything before it’s gone. -

My new short piece for #trumpet and #organ, ‘Backhaus Introit’ is having simultaneous premieres in Australia and Germany in July. It was commissioned by Bendigo Fine Music for its Keys of Gold Festival, to honour Dr Henry Backhaus, the first Catholic priest to serve in the goldfields. He founded St Kilian’s, #Bendigo, where the Australian premiere will happen) and paid for its organ. He was also a composer, so I have used a couple of his melodic ideas as tribute.

So this is happening tomorrow and Saturday at GSM in #Cambridge
The opening recital is given by the Organist to the University of Cambridge and President of the Royal College of Organists, Sarah MacDonald.
The second is by... me 🙀 (I have 0 organ-playing qualifications)
I'll be playing (between about 6-6:40pm) the two organ suites by Clérambault, so if a bit of 18th-century #organ #music sounds fun, do come along (I think it'll also be livestreamed).
