Just got in to Jasper. Pretty close to on-time even!
Had a terrible sleep but pretty much expected that. Looks smokier out than it smells at least.

I jinxed the Jasper SkyTram. In more than 40 years of coming here I’ve never been up. We booked for this morning and it broke down before we got there. Still not running.
On the upside we went to Sunwapta Falls instead, another place I hadn’t been. Then we scouted Honeymoon Lake which has a nice little campground. Its first come first serve but there were lots of open spots. We’ll try it next year.

Nice day kayaking Lake Annette and Lake Edith in Jasper. Smoke’s getting heavy this afternoon though. :(

Our new campground neighbours have German plates. Must be on a grand tour.

I think the key to getting a camp spot at Whistler Campground in Jasper is to wait. They all sell out in minutes because people double and triple book then cancel what they don’t want. I would guess the area is about 3/4 full today. We booked three nights by waiting a month or two after bookings opened.
Caveat: Midweek. Weekends are trickier.

Last August my partner and I did one of the most incredible backpacking trips back to back, hiking more than 130km in 6 days (two of which were rest days) through the #CanadianRockies

Good news for Jasper as the federal government puts in another $520m in addition to the $385m they’ve already pledged. Meanwhile I’m not sure the Alberta government has done anything for the town or park other than pull their one offer because it was conditional on expanding the townsite which Parks Canada was not going to do.
