  1. @faraiwe @sneakybastard in terms of footwork Ono Ha #IttoRyu doesn’t have hanmi, which aikido has extensively in most lines. The ‘one sword’ is also different to the usual diagonal irimi you would see in #aikido. I don’t think that proves anything one way or another though. There are other bits that do connect more.

  2. @faraiwe yes I’m aware #DaitoRyu #Takeda practised Ono Ha #IttoRyu #kenjutsu. What’s less clear is if he ever taught #aikido founder Ueshiba the Itto Ryu stuff. I would welcome any valid sources that would state that as it would be quite new insight.

The bokken I use in Ono Ha Itto Ryu is not, btw, the same as Iwama bokken. It is thick, yes, and relatively straight, but has a pointy end.

  3. The similarities to some #aikido awase were a surprise. I didn’t expect to see that and I feel there must be a common ancestor or connector. Possibly Ono ha #IttoRyu or then aikido was influenced by kendo practise (wouldn’t be completely surprising). Though of course aikido tends to use hanmi.
