La semana pasada falté a todos mis entrenamientos ( #MuayThai y #Kenjutsu ) porque estaba con las alergias a full y no podía caminar dos pasos sin que me dieran ganas de varias cosas que no voy a describir porque son cuestiones moquísticas y puede haber gente susceptible al tema. Así mismo creo que además me quiso agarrar alguna gripe pero mi sistema inmune que es el equivalente a todo un batallón de Space Marines con lanzallamas la contuvo.
El problema es que esta semana, este lunes que pasó, vuelvo a entrenar pero sufro un accidente que me ha dejado toda la semana sin poder practicar porque un compañero de Muay Thai me ha lastimado el pie al punto tal que duele caminar (fue un accidente, reitero).
No pego una che.
Haré entrenamiento en casa del tronco superior no más y de piernas aquello que me permite el condenado pie.

Great news! #JussiEkholm has been invited to an afternoon of Japanese #swords in Helsinki, 29th Mar, 4pm. He is a well known collector of swords and is visible on international forums. This will not be about practise, but about learning the beauty and crafts behind the #katana.
A must for anyone into #iaido, #kenjutsu or even #aikido. I will definitely be there, so hope to meet some of you then. At the #Nishi dojo.

Mi «obsesión» por el #kenjutsu ha llegado a tal punto que he agarrado un amigo carpintero que desde tiempo se ha dedicado a hacer props para cosplay en madera y le he pedido que me haga un #bokken de #wakizashi, uno de #tanto, y ahora quiero también uno de una #nodachi

No sé si lo había compartido o lo pensé pero nunca lo hice, como a veces me pasa, pero a raíz de empezar a practicar #Kenjutsu y gracias a la vigilancia de los dispositivos tecnológicos es que descubrí el manga #Vagabond de #TakehikoInoue y lo cierto es que me he enganchado muchísimo.
Pero lo más interesante de todo esto es que antes hubiera pensando en proyectarme con el protagonista #MiyamotoMusashi y su búsqueda por la perfección marcial en el manejo de la espada, eso hubiera sido en mi juventud, pero lo cierto es que en realidad me estoy interesando por los otros aspectos de la trama como las historias de trasfondo de los personajes secundarios, el apartado histórico que a pesar de ser obra de ficción existe, la espiritualidad, etc.
Una de las historias que más me llegó fue la de un maestro espadachín deprimido que se convierte en padre logrando así tener una segunda oportunidad de dejar algún legado, y en la ironía de no querer enseñarle esgrima a su hijo por querer alejarlo de la violencia y de la obsesión termina en realidad formando lo que parece ser uno de los espadachines del momento. Las revelaciones y el final de esta historia me parecieron muy hermosas.
El manga es en un Japón Feudal por lo cual es una historia que no está libre de violencia, machismos, éticas y morales de diferentes matices y colores, pero cuando logras separar los tantos hay, a mi parecer, una gran historia la cual por el momento voy a continuar leyendo.

Is there anyone who does #iaido or #koryu #kenjutsu who would recognise the chiburi from this kata (#AikiToho by #aikido sensei #Nishio)?
I’m not sure how well the hive mind on Mastodon will work but I’ve been looking for the answer for some time. Some charts list it as a chiburi from #SuioRyu while others don’t. High ranking people from Suio Ryu didn’t recognise it. A practitioner of Aiki Toho stated error in table. But I haven’t been able to link to any other school.

Creo que algo realmente te gusta cuando de alguna manera querés llevarlo a todos lados, o al menos es una pequeña teoría que tengo.
Desde que empecé #kenjutsu tengo como ganas de llevar el #bokken conmigo todos los días incluso aunque no haya práctica.
Igual es verdad que también hay una fuerte influencia en que hay bastante inseguridad general y el bokken me hace sentir un poco más seguro en caso si tuviera que defenderme de algo.

@faraiwe yes I’m aware #DaitoRyu #Takeda practised Ono Ha #IttoRyu #kenjutsu. What’s less clear is if he ever taught #aikido founder Ueshiba the Itto Ryu stuff. I would welcome any valid sources that would state that as it would be quite new insight.
The bokken I use in Ono Ha Itto Ryu is not, btw, the same as Iwama bokken. It is thick, yes, and relatively straight, but has a pointy end.

Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu is among the oldest forms of #kenjutsu, its origins hark to before #Japanese #swords were even curved (pre 900s CE)

Ono-ha Itto Ryu is a school of #kenjutsu , not as old, but very focused on the actual fencing, and use of capture of opponent's perception of blade position
The style is also credited with the invention of the fukuro-shinai, a superior #shinai (bamboo practice sword) which allows for more dynamic training.

Out pops a beeeeeaaaauuutiful, full-sized #tachi. Heirloom from his family, late 1600s. Allegedly bathed in bodily fluids, more than once, during the late 1860s.
No one wanted to approach closer than ten feet.
He didn't even draw.

Another thing about me time!
I'm a former #MartialArtist. I studied My Jong Law Horn #KungFu for years. It was pretty high-impact (fractured a metatarsal, broke my nose once) so I took it easy afterward and studied a little bit of #TaiChiChuan.
Years later I took up #Aikido and Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu alongside #Kenjutsu and #Iaijutsu.
Now I'm a lump whose idea of exercise is going up and down stairs. 😉
