  1. The Iowa Straw Poll (also known as the #Ames Straw Poll) was a #presidential #strawPoll and #fundraising event for the #RepublicanPartyOfIowa. It was held six times, traditionally in late summer approximately six months in advance of contested presidential #IowaCaucuses, from 1979 until 2011, on the campus of #IowaStateUniversity in Ames. The event attracted both praise and criticism, with supporters noting that it raised funds for the Republican Party of Iowa.

  6. Hope re #IowaCaucuses: "Trump remains the dominant leader of the hard-right older Republicans who turn out for caucuses, but is so generally unpopular that 49% of Iowa caucusgoers—the party’s most dedicated supporters in a deeply Republican state—chose someone else. The Trump base is older—entry polls showed that only 27% of yesterday’s voters were under the age of 50—and Trump won most handily in the rural, white counties that look least like the rest of the country." tinyurl.com/4mk4kb5p

  12. I’m don’t trust #Republicans, they’ve supported fascists and neo-Nazis for decades.

But it’s interesting that #IowaCaucuses numbers were depressed this year. I mean, I get it, it’s cold and snowy.

But it’s cold and snowy every winter in Iowa. It’s normal. I grew up where it gets bitterly cold every year. It doesn’t stop you. You’re used to it and you’re prepared for it.

I hope it’s a trend, I just don’t believe #GOP voters would suddenly turn away from their #FourthReich.

  14. Scavved off Bluesky:
“Chris Hayes Making this point (about the Iowa caucus) very well”
NGL, it’s kind of embarrassing as an American to note that who is running for president is being decided by less than 10% of the registered voters.

  16. Trump's "landslide" victory
    #IowaCaucuses #politics #news

    The emperor's new cloths

Trump won the race in which all of the pretend candidates praised the cult leader in debates he did not show up for.

  17. It seems that a lot of #Republicans were upset that networks were calling the #IowaCaucuses for #Trump before hardly any precincts reported in.

    What a laugh!

Since when do Republicans care about counting votes? They only care that Führer Trump is declared winner and will gladly attack the United States if he loses anyway.

  19. One takeaway from the #IowaCaucuses:
Never Back Down, the SuperPAC supporting Ron DeSantis "mocked the already weak regulatory framework governing money in campaigns", according to political scientist Barbara Trish of Iowa's Grinnell College

  22. CW: USPol: What does Trump's big win in Iowa mean?

It means Republicans support Trump. Duh! Seriously, why was this even in question?

Oh right, because the media are unbreakably addicted to horse-race narratives... even when one "horse" is a dozen lengths ahead of all the others.

The only thing that would stop Trump from getting the nomination at this point is him dying. Him winning the caucuses is not "news", journalists!

  24. I read the breathless "horse race" coverage of the #IowaCaucuses in the #NYT. After all that breathless hoopla and a barrel of ink, in the last graph, it was divulged that 15% (110k of 720k) of Iowa Republicans voted in the caucuses. And, since 1980, the caucus winner won the nomination twice (Dole-1996, Bush-2000), and went on to win the presidency once.

This would be an abysmal turnout for even a local election.

    #NewYorkTimes, do better.
