Sometime back, maybe 5 years ago, I came across the phrase #exvangelical . It resonated with me as I was exploring #orthodoxy and some of my deeply held convictions were fraying at the edges. Just a few days ago, on seeing the term in someone's bio, i realize I have fully walked that path now. I am thankful for my time in #protestant land as an #evangelical but I am glad to have joined the ancient church.

Do you remember the book & Windows CD-ROM "The Bible Code" came out or was your family not as wildly evangelical pentecostal as mine?

Q: What do we most need to know right now in the United States following Lindsey Graham’s death and conjecture about Mitch McConnell’s.

I drew this card with this question in mind, right after seeing a social media post from someone who I typically has good points and real food for thought. This may well be the first time I’ve disagreed with him.

But no, this isn’t a time for tut-tutting about “speaking ill of the dead” from either side of the political divide. Graham was not a good person who, because of his political power, inflicted real harm on real people and contributed much to the rise of fascism and white christian nationalism in America today.

I’m sorry for the loss of any kind person who feels his – or their – passing. But at the same time it is fair to think they are lying in the bed they made during their lifetime.

The social media person clucked something on the order “saying these things says more about you as a person than it does about them.

Not this time.

If making fun of a powerful bad man says something about the person saying it….what does a powerful man’s silence about the death of school girls at the hands of unnecessary war, the death of women at the hands of politically and religiously motivated abortion bans, the death of schoolchildren at the hands of our lack of gun control….and on and on and on. What does silence about these dead say about THEM? I’d rather people make merciless fun of the politicians who caused harm than remain silent in the face of the harm they caused.

It’s more important to be kind to everyone living than to worry about what is said about the dead.

Laughter is good medicine. Public figures who caused real harm aren’t going to be any less dead if we only say nice things about them after they’ve been rendered harmless by the inevitable. Momento Mori.

In the noise of current events, the Ace of swords reminds us to cut to the chase, get to the point, simplify. Tune out the static and get right down to what really matters. In the end, kindness is the only measure of what that is.

I was particularly offended at the funeral when the #evangelical preacher anticipated that some present would not share their belief. He actually said, "Some of you don't believe that, because you've never been quiet enough to hear what the still small voice of God is trying to say to you."

Fuck you, pastor, I spent twenty years of my adult life sincerely believing in Christianity, and it was proven to be false. I tried it; it failed. But pastor must slander to maintain "faith."

Religious people often think that religion helps people grieve. But let me tell you that #evangelical funerals are god-awful! I just attended one of a more distant family member, whom I hadn't seen in probably ten years, and it was all about the necessity of submitting to God to go to heaven. Readers, I literally never heard this man mention God, not once, in decades.

If dead men tell to tales, it's amazing how many words can be put in their mouths!

#CUI was founded in 2006 after the publication of Hagee’s book “Jerusalem Countdown,”
which asserts that a U.S.-Israel war against Iran is both biblically prophesied and necessary to bring about the battle of #Armageddon and the Second Coming.
Two years later, John McCain rejected Hagee’s endorsement in the 2008 presidential campaign, after a sermon of Hagee’s surfaced describing Hitler as fulfilling God's will by hastening the return of Jews to Israel. 
But Hagee is just one figure in the still-poorly-understood #Christian #dominionist movement that’s supporting Trump and MAGA Republicans in general.

“ReAwaken America Tour,”
which is connected to multiple NAR figures, as Jennifer Cohn reported in 2022.
Just this month, Salon contributor Frederick Clarkson of Political Research Associates reported on Wallnau’s latest political venture, dubbed the
“Courage Tour,” which targets 19 counties that “are going to determine the future of America.”
