If this is an accurate quote, it's an odd example of what linguists call "hypercorrection" from Mr. President. He senses that the subjunctive is being used here ("his name not be mentioned"), but he screws it up. #sociolinguistics #hypercorrection

There's a certain kind of pedant who insists that it should be pronounced with [s] as in "sit", but I see no reason why this pronunciation, derived from middle and early modern English spelling, should be regarded as more "correct" than the pronunciation that follows the post 17h century Hellenized spelling and reflects the word's Greek roots.

hypercorrection : ajouter exprès des fautes d'orthographe pour faire plus authentique.
Par exemple le mot « biisi » en finnois veut dire morceau (de musique). C'est un emprunt à l'anglais « piece », donc on aurait pu avoir « piisi ». La lettre « b » n'existe en finnois que dans les mots empruntés à d'autres langues, mais on a quand même remplacé le « p » de « piisi » par un « b », parce que ça fait plus authentique.
(❗ ne pas confondre « piisi » avec « pissi »)
