Inevitably, the effect of the Julian Barnes being what it was, I turned to Huysmans' "Against Nature" straight away! Interestingly, it's only been lurking on the TBR since 2019 when I picked it up at the local Oxfam and it's highly likely that that was because I'd listened to the excellent Backlisted episode on the book. Il s’appelle Solal (comme le héros de la tétralogie des « Valeureux » de #AlbertCohen dont il semble avoir emprunté la judéité désinvolte) Aronowicz, souvent comparé par les critiques à l’époque (livres parus 2013 à 2015) à Patrick Bateman, et il est vrai que tous les deux partagent l’obsession pour les produits de marque, les chaussures en particulier. Mais ce fainéant factotum d’une école privée genevoise est beaucoup plus cultivé que le banquier new-yorkais de #BretEastonEllis, surtout dans les cigares cubaines, et il adore #Huysmans (« Là-bas », en l’occurrence), #Breton, #Apollinaire et #Aragon – dans l’ensemble plus dandy que psychopathe. 2/2
