@GhostOnTheHalfShell Whenever people become over reliant on a technology system, human factors #psych calls it “over-reliance.” It means trusting the system to do what you expect it to do when the system is not capable of it. There is also “under reliance” when a person continues to do something manually even if the machine is fully capable. Usually #psychologists are talking about complicated systems used in aircraft autopilots, or monitoring nuclear reactors — systems where the consequences of failure are severe. Lots of training helps, as does experience, but even training of experts must happen regularly or over-reliance occurs. Users become complacent — they over trust — and either don’t remember or discount the risk. That is what is happening now with the #AI products.

After #Alexa+ one too many times picked arguments about whether a light was, indeed, on I tried to bring home automation out of the cloud by migrating to #OpenHA.
I do appreciate how much thought went into the design of the system, but seriously, if your getting started guide even uses the words semantic and ontology, you need to reconsider. If it requires study of those two topics, it's gone off the rails.
Such philosophical depth should not be a prerequisite for basic operation of the ceiling light.

Human-in-the-loop sounds like a safety net. It isn't. It's alarm fatigue in an understaffed ER, a driver watching a crash the car was supposed to handle, and a dev stamping a 30-file diff because it builds. Same failure, every time.

"The book argues that safety cannot be treated as an add-on once technology has been developed. Instead, human factors, usability and the role of operators must be integrated into systems from the outset. Drawing on experiences from aviation, maritime operations, energy and transportation, the authors demonstrate how serious incidents often occur when technology, organisations and human work processes are not sufficiently aligned.
A central concept in the book is “Meaningful Human Control”, a framework designed to ensure that people retain situational awareness, decision-making authority and the ability to intervene when automated systems operate in complex and safety-critical environments. This is becoming increasingly important as new AI regulations are introduced across Europe.

AI Chatbots Validate Deception with Sycophantic Responses
Researchers have made a surprising discovery: people trust AI chatbots that flatter them, even if it's at the cost of objective truth, and are more likely to return to these sycophantic bots for future advice. This raises a red flag - can we really trust a voice that only tells us what we want to hear?

I don't know why we expect people to know right from wrong when most of us still struggle to tell our right from our left. 🧭

Was listening to one of the supernerds, he was framing this as "Every individual has multi-dimensional performance characteristics" and the skill lies in using those to work together.
So, you think you're super smart?
Well, you suck at engineering, project management, food prep, comforting they who fall behind.Everyone is shit at something, and you are super shit at far more things than you're good at.

The use of a Crew Vehicle Simulator is not limited to astronauts and pilots in training; it is a critical engineering tool. Designers and engineers use it to test, refine and validate the cockpit layouts and control interfaces of new spacecraft and aircraft.
