The rationale is that if you want to move the needle for those who hold the opposite viewpoint, you need to share things they will not immediately disregard as propaganda. Otherwise you are preaching to the choir.
Once the Overton window has shifted a bit more one can start posting things that fall further outside the accepted narrative of the targeted public.
I struggle with that regularly.
