Indiana Historical Society https://indianahistory.org just ended a bunch of positions and fired people with no warning. It's one of the few places that I have never even tried to partner with around here, because I know they're a hot mess when it comes to the executives and board. But wow. So goddamn low.
I feel deeply for all those hurt by yet another failure of leadership and trust.

Story I heard growing up, likely from my grandmother: Back in the frontier days, a stranger from another area came knocking on a cabin door. The person inside said, "Who's There?" The person knocking thought they were introducing themselves. (Everybody had different dialects back then) From then on they became known as the Hoosiers.

It's sine die in #Indiana and I can officially report that NO ANTI-LGBTQ LANGUAGE SURVIVED THIS SESSION.
This is the first time that's happened since 2020 - the start of the anti-#trans wave that has swept the country.
This is a very big deal, and today I'm pleased and proud to call myself a #Hoosier.

In #Indiana, I generally think of the anti-trans wave as starting in 2020, the most recent year we were able to stop all anti-LGBTQ legislation.
I just watched a (formerly?) powerful state senator fail to get a MAGA wet-dream of a bill out of committee, and then repeatedly fail to get amendments with similar language attached to three other Republican bills.
It's hard not to feel like the moral panic train is starting to run out of gas.

Last month, #Hoosier lawmakers were victims of an awful campaign of political harassment. I hope those who experienced living under such a threat will oppose #SB182, which would expose #trans people to similar threats.
Judges in #Indiana agree that we are at risk of harassment, and regularly order gender marker changes to be confidential.
We can save our ability to get the safety and privacy of an updated birth certificate.
