Let’s keep catching up on #boardgames! I’ve been on a #HEXploreIt kick, so before my last game of Godai, I finally played Sands of Shurax for the first time! I heard it was one of the more complex iterations, so I rolled a D4 to pick a city-state to align with and used their victory condition as my goal from the get-go.

Victory achieved for Tarri! I destroyed all the other city-states and defeated the Level 8 boss that was teleporting me to all the irradiated spaces in the wastes. I probably didn’t see like 90% of this game. Didn’t bother with crystals, didn’t play scarabs, didn’t do the black pyramid, only visited half the cities, only used caravans strictly for transport, did practically no city-state missions…just focused on exploring enough of the wastes to give me enough time to power up and focusing on the Tarri’s Arena events. Played my first full game of #HEXploreIt Vol. 5: Mountains of Godai last night! Went easy mode with a hexclusive role and race on the normal difficulty. Took about half the game until I felt the game began to flow smoothly, but once I got there it was enjoyable. It feels very different than the other volumes and will take a bit to get used to the sheer quantity of things that need to be tracked. The photos are mid-game and end game when I defeated Jaethi.

I did struggle with the siege phase a bit in Siege 2 & 3 for the same reasons I struggled with The Circle Undone campaign for the Arkham Horror card game: I’m terrible at keeping track of passive effects. I had lots of checking and re-checking what the effects were, how they scaled, and what they meant. (1/2)

Nachdem ich die letzten Wochen mit dem 5. Teil der Reihe verbrachte, kehre ich wieder zum 1. Teil zurück. Der spielt sich entgegen des Feature Creeps der späteren Teile sehr angenehm schnell. Eine Runde dauert 5 Minuten, nicht 30 Minuten.

Diesmal spiele ich mit nur einem Helden und zwei Begleitern. Der Held selbst kann als Beast Master wilde Tiere zähmen und für sich kämpfen lassen. Leider sind mir noch keine begegnet. 😔

Latest in my #HEXploreIt obsession…Volume 4: The Domain of Mirza Noctis came in today along with its expansions and the Hero Chest. Spent the afternoon recovering from nights sorting out Vol. 1/2/4 into the chest, combining Return To expansions into their core boxes, and getting Vol. 4 ready to play.

I’ll likely use a Hexclusive character true solo for my first play of Mirza Noctis, but I will be aiming to use the Inquisitor very quickly after that; looks like a fun way to play! #boardgames

Played #HEXploreIt Valley of the Dead King tonight. Main goal was attempting to complete as many Shrine of Seasons quests as I could. Took a long time to find the tile with Shrine of Seasons and struggled to keep myself fed for much of the game. Didn’t last too long before the Dead King was coming for me and I was simply under-levelled for the final encounter. Had a good time trying to explore efficiently though and look forward to giving it another try. #boardgames #soloboardgames

I am so proud to finally be able to announce this - I am writing a series of "one-shot" style campaign games for HEXplore It titled HEXplore It: Legends!

As I know that large campaigns can be intimidating for some people and gaming groups, I wanted to make HEXplore It more approachable to those who might not have the time to dedicate to a long campaign. Each Legend will continue to have a branching narrative style of gameplay with impactful decisions, in addition to various Heroic Moments that will allow your characters to excel. The real challenge is in choosing just which of the multitude of stories to focus on. :)

It is an extremely odd experience playtesting my own board game. You ever play a game and get that "damn, it would be awesome if THIS were to happen" feeling? I get to have that sensation AND wield the power to do something about it. It's wild.
