IMHO Brian Taylor's Hellboy: The Crooked Man is not appreciated enough. It's estimated $20 million budget is nothing compared to previous bloated block-busters. Movie is so well done; cast is just wonderful & the story is haunting. Effects blended with beautiful cinematography 💙

Didn't hear Sam Keith passed last month. He was a master. Loved his Maxx and Pitt stuff, and he did some Hulk and others too. RIP to a serious talent.

HELLBOY: EL HOMBRE RETORCIDO
Un señor rojo mazao y una ayudanta que se les escapa una araña y se escoñan del tren en el que iban, aprovechan para quedarse marujeando movidas ajenas en tierras embrujadas, viéndose metidos en un folk horror lleno de brujas, varitas mágicas huesiles, malos viajes de tripi, y un señor con sombrero y tortícolis y muchos dinelos (una mezcla entre un leprechaun y Lincoln).

My roommate and I watched Hellboy the Crooked Man tonight. It's *good*. Don't look for wisecracking Hellboy here, he does crack a few wises, but he hasn't become full cynical yet. For its budget, it's a 10/10 movie. Overall in the general scheme of movies, it's a 7/10. My official Hellboy movie ranking is now Hellboy The Crooked Man, Hellboy Blood and Iron, Hellboy II The Golden Army, Hellboy Sword of Storms, Hellboy, Hellboy (2019)

Despite a limited budget, I found Hellboy The Crooked Man to be very inspired and well done. I thought the acting was solid and was genuinely creeped out for most of the movie. It isn’t the best adaptation of the character in my opinion—I think the animated movies Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron hold that title—but I think it’s a solid dark horror movie take on the character and enjoyed it much more than the 2019 adaption.

Given the mixed-bag reviews, and the zero marketing, I went into 'Hellboy: The Crooked Man' with low expectations, and maybe that was for the best because I ended up finding it an imperfect but actually enjoyable watch. It leans towards the indie horror/ b-movie genre, it adapts a self-contained Hellboy story pretty faithfully with the direct involvement of Mike Mignola, and it does its own thing with obvious love for the source material.
