I finished some desert camo mechs for Heavy Gear last week. Process was slow, as I layered on 4 colors of individually shaped blobs for the pattern. One of those schemes that's 90% drudge work up front, and then the wash and detail work flies by. This one in particular I think came out best. Some of the others in the batch came out a little frosty from the final varnish.

I won a painting competition! Dream Pod 9's 'Gold Gear 2024' for the Heavy Gear Blitz wargame and RPG. Still a little shocked, but also flattered. I really was proud of how this one turned out. The best I've ever placed in any painting competition before was an honorable mention, so this really made my day.

An Iguana gear (light mech) for #HeavyGearBlitz. I totally forgot to write down the camo recipe I used on my other stealth gears, so just winged it. It came out more intense and I'm not quite as happy with it, but it'll work.
From this angle and with the macro lens, you can see the hole I accidentally drilled through the gun when pinning it, but which I literally can't see any other time.

Trying something wildly different than my usual style here. I wanted a retro space opera-y look, bright and alien, avoiding my usual mundane drab and grimy palette. It's really matte which is throwing off photos but I think it works. Completed a weekend project to design base labels for a few different sets of models. The sides of hexes was easy. The sloped rounds gave me conniptions. Font selection; Industria LT solid for Heavy Gear because that's the classic header font in the books, and Michroma for spaceships because nothing says spaceship like Microgramma-alikes.

GREL based, well one stand of eight at least. The pastels pop nicely with the desert base. I'm really happy with how they came out. In pictures I feel like they could use some more shading, but in real life, in my hand, they really don't. I think I'm finally learning how to paint for the table instead of the camera.

GREL done. Need to let them cure til I can varnish them, then do the basing and some light weathering. That'll pretty much complete my Terran Colonial Expeditionary Force.

I wanted to replicate the artwork from the old #heavygear books (see ref pic). In particular, I wanted to make sure I didn't wash them out or over darken them, but also not clash with my weathered tanks by going too cartoony.

Trying a multilayer chipping technique today. All via airbrush; black primer, dark grey bottom color, chipping medium, silver mid color, chipping medium, faded ultramarine top color, then go at it with a damp toothbrush for wear on edges.

I was aiming for late first invasion look to the amount of wear
but the top layer is peeling off in chunks and sheets, so instead I've got like a HPC stolen by some badlanders from the PAK scrapyard.

Finally finished writing up notes on a Heavy Gear game from a couple weeks ago, utilizing all the new terrain I've been working on. Said terrain is not finished, ~70% done, but neither were all the models on the table.

Heavy Gear Blitz 3rd edition has been seeing a lot of table time with our group, and deservedly so. Ain't perfect, but solid enough to make you want to refine it 'til it gleams.
