New archaeological method links ancient mega settlements to modern concepts of human development
A recent study has unveiled a novel method to explore ancient social dynamics and individual well-being through archaeology. The study bridges the gap between ancient material remains and modern concepts like the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI).

The Sustainable Development Index has been updated with data through 2022. The SDI is a metric that (broadly) normalizes a country's level of human development by the resource consumption & ecological impacts required to provide that human development. Both hyperconsumptive & underdeveloped countries score poorly, while middle income countries focused on wellbeing tend to score well (Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, Uruguay)

Unfortunately São Tomé and Príncipe didn’t have a WPFI score while there’s no HDI for Somalia. Of course Western Sahara had no data too.
