I'll be finally honest with myself, that the #Hash2Pub hashtag federation for the fediverse won't be happening in the foreseeable future.
Unpinning the posts from my profile now, to not give a false impression.

I hope to be able to continue my work an #Hash2Pub next year, but cannot promise anything. -

#TheGraph - interesting project to index the blockchain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gC7xJ_98r8 Something like this could be used to index #fediverse )
There was already an attempt to do it - #Hash2Pub . I think there is actually a question, do fediverse wants (or needs) to be indexed. It could make whole network more vulnerable for censorship, for example -
I sooo much want to work on #Hash2Pub again, but there are thesises for my studies in the way /0\

I just released a status update on my #Hash2Pub hastag federation project for the fediverse: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/decentralised-hashtag-search-and-subscription-relay-implementation-progress-report/542/19
Especially #Haskell devs are warmly welcome to contribute or criticise my code quality, but all other comments from the #ActivityPub sphere are welcome as well.

Orr, why did I choose the algorithm fromthis really badly written paper back then when projecting #Hash2Pub? /0\
So much handwaiving of things that turn out to be very impractical when implementing them in the real world.

@mayel I mostly come from the permissonless flat unmanaged taxonomies called "Hashtags" ;)
but many parts of dealing with taxonomies/ topics/ labels should be similar.I am interested in solving the problem of fragmentation of topics and access of small instances to topics with #Hash2Pub, so I'll probably ask some questions in the Commonspub Q&A about how your topic actors work.

@Gargron @cwebber @lain Does federation already use HTTP/2 multiplexing capabilities, and has this significantly improved performance?
Could be interesting for #Hash2Pub at some point, when multiple posts need to be fetched at once from an instance without having to specify a new API endpoint allowing that.

When a deadline is approaching, there's nothing better than finding out that a basic feature actually never worked since implementing it several months ago :thisisfine:

@hecate I tried to generalise a data structure (make its member types parameterisable) and ended up enabling quite a lot of language extensions.
I've merged this so far due to time restrictions, but if you're interested I'd be grateful for feedback on my type design, see https://git.orlives.de/schmittlauch/Hash2Pub/pulls/63/files

»Oh, #PeerTube announces they're working on a global search over all instances? That could be interesting for #Hash2Pub…«
*reads the announcement*
»Damn, yet another centralised approach :blobfrowningbig:«
> create a server that indexes all videos and channels from all PeerTube instances that are listed on the public directory
:allthethings: #RedecentraliseAllTheThings

@charlag @trwnh Yes, it is a difficult problem, which I am currently working on: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/decentralised-hashtag-search-and-subscription-relay-implementation-progress-report/542
The video linked there should be the quickest way of getting an overview of the problem and my proposed approach.

@odesa You better wait until my university project is done, I haven't even started with the ActivityPub specific bits yet and will probably only implement very basic demo AP representations during the project.
Together with @lain and @[email protected] we figured out though that #Hash2Pub can expose the existing relay API for a start to provide basic backwards-compatible service. So lloking into that is already a good start.

Fuck it, why should I design my protocol for maximal efficiency when it's the current web-hipster trend to replace all internet protocols with a huge pile of HTTP, JSON and JavaScript?!

Ich hatte kurz erwogen, statt ASN.1 Apache Thrift zu nehmen, aber dessen Haskell bindings sind borken.
Erspart mir immerhin die Entscheidung ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dear data structure nerds, I am looking for a data structure that supports
- indexed lookups and inserts
- linear element traversal
- is sparsely populated
- maps non-existing elements to one of the interval edges
- works in a modular name space -
