San Francisco’s power grid is down, but we are so thankful we switched our tree to WRGB LED lights this year.
They glow like our old incandescent lights, but they will last for days on our 1-kwhr battery, instead of only 3hr if we were still using the old lights.
It’s unironically like a technological Hanukah story

Our favorite family tradition is Catnukah. Each night of #Chanukah we light the candles, feed the cats a treat, and then give them a present. And the cats LOVE it.
This year on the first night Auggie meowed happily as soon as I started setting up the menorah. He remembered!
All of them gather to watch us light. But of course the treats and toys are their highlight.

For the 7th year running we made this recipe and it continues to be worth the mess. We’ve found it’s optimal to have 11 people so everyone gets two and there’s some spares. It’s beautiful, no doubt — but as someone who celebrates Hanukkah, I can’t help but feel a little outnumbered.
And then it happened!
I spotted a menorah tucked in among the candy canes.
It was like stumbling upon a hidden treasure in the middle of a Christmas wonderland.
Not long after, I saw a dreidel nestled on a store shelf, quietly holding its own between shiny red ornaments and gingerbread men.
It felt like these little pieces of Hanukkah were winking at me, reminding me that our light shines even in unexpected places.
It’s funny how something so small can feel like a warm hug from home when you're not expecting it.
It made me pause, smile, and think: even in a world of Christmas glitter, there’s always room for a little Hanukkah magic.
