Another HacKit detail I’ve wanted to improve for years is finally done.
The Appearance pane used to hide the author badge colours inside a pop-up button. I’ve replaced it with coloured radio buttons, so the whole palette is visible at a glance and changing colour is immediate.
A small change, but exactly the kind of detail I care about in a native Mac app.
Coming in the next major HacKit update.

Amb l'activitat Robotic Art hem après a fer els primers bucles senzills (repetir instruccions un cert nombre de vegades). I com millor podem entendre un robot (o un programa) que fent nosaltres de robot!
Un quadrat és repetir 4 vegades les instruccions "avança" i "gira 90 graus a la dreta". El nostre primer bucle!

Iniciat el curs intensiu de programació amb robots nivell Bits (6-8 anys)! Tots i totes vam sortir molt contents!
Vam fer l'activitat Robotic Maze, fent que el robot passi per un petit laberint que ideaven.
En aquest curs usem un llenguatge de blocs simplificat adient per a aquestes edats: EdBlocks.

Últim dia del curs de programació amb robots! Ens ho hem passat genial tot aprenent!
Acitivtat: My Remote Robot. Hem après a controlar els nostres robots amb un comandament a distància i els hem fet jugar a futbol!
La setmana que ve comencem el curs per al grup d'infants de 6-8 anys. Esperem que també vagi genial!

Quart dia i penúltim dia del curs intensiu de Programar amb robots.
Activitat: Let's make music! Hem fet que el nostre robot "canti" melodies. I abans les hem provat amb diversos instruments :-)
També hem incorporat sons en diferents projectes: quan xoquem amb un obstacle, música de fons...

Tercer dia de curs! Activitat: Dance with me!
Hem fet coreografies a ritme de picar de mans i alguns han fet ballar dos robots alhora!

L'últim dia de curs de HackIT vam aprendre com es codifiquen els caràcters en un ordinador i vam fer bracelets binaris amb la inicial del nostre nom! Van quedar prou macos :-)

- Ús de l'ordinador: hem començat a aprendre a usar el teclat, el ratolí i a usar aplicacions senzilles amb gcompris (https://www.gcompris.net) -

- Bytes (10-12 anys): 0 nenes i 5 nensA mida que es van fent grans sembla que les nenes ja no tenen interès per la tecnologia...
Idees per canviar la situació?

More recently I have been working on my second macOS app, #Oliphaunt. A Mastodon client for the federated social network built on the ActivityPub protocol. Developing it taught me a great deal about persistence, concurrency, networking, design patterns plus more. I am keen to return to HacKit to apply this knowledge, improve the app further and work on an iOS port.

Today marks HacKit’s 5th anniversary. My first macOS app published on Friday 22nd January 2021. It is a Hacker News reader written in Swift using AppKit with no SwiftUI. The name HacKit is a portmanteau of Hacker News and AppKit.
It is genuinely rewarding to know that HacKit has been downloaded around the world including in underrepresented countries and is used daily.

Avui hem iniciat un nou grup de HackIT! amb infnats de 1 er i 2on. Benvigudes i benvinguts!
Hem començat a aprendre els diferents dispositius electrònics que ens envolten amb un joc, on un infant definia un dispositiu (amb paraules o mímica) i la resta l'havia d'encertar!

Avui hem iniciat un nou grup de HackIT! amb infants de 1er i 2on. Benvingudes i benvinguts!
Hem començat a aprendre els diferents dispositius electrònics que ens envolten amb un joc, on un infant definia un dispositiu (amb paraules o mímica) i la resta l'havia d'encertar!

Avui hem fet una activitat a l'aire lliure:
- Hem gravat un track amb OsmAnd
- En un mapa en paper, hem marcat el recorregut a mà
- Hem visualitzat el fitxer .gpx amb el programa Maps de GNOME, l'hem pujat a wanderer.to per veure'l des d'un servei web i fins i tot l'hem visualitzat en un editor de text!I hem entès que per un cantó tenim les dades i d'altra banda els programes que ens les mostren de diverses maneres!

Ja tenim els kits HackIT! per començar l'extraescolar el proper 1 d'octubre a #Centelles!
Un USB Live persistent amb el sistema GNU/Linux Debian i... llibreta, llapis i goma per anotar tot allò què fem, aprenem i, sobretot, pensem!

Opened my first terminal session 1h after arriving at work - this will be a good week :)
My worst performance for opening a terminal first time in the week is Tuesday afternoon. That was a REAL lousy week.

I’m excited to continue improving #HacKit and plan to port it to iOS in the future.
