  1. #Outbreak of #H9N2 avian #influenza viruses in lesser #rhea in #Peru, June-July 2025, etidiohnew.blogspot.com/2026/0

... multiple mutations associated with mammalian host adaptation, increased virulence, increased pathogenicity, and increased virus binding to α2-6 receptors (identified).

  2. Avian #influenza in #Italy: First #human case of #H9N2 confirmed, diepresse.com/20713007/vogelgr

The infected individual is a man from Africa living in #Lombardy, where he contracted the H9N2 strain of the virus.

  3. 🦠 Primo caso umano di influenza aviaria H9N2 in Europa: identificato in Lombardia.

Caso importato, nessuna trasmissione uomo-uomo, paziente in isolamento a Monza. Ministero della Salute e ISS confermano: nessun allarme.

  4. #Vogelgrippe: «In cell-based experiments, a version of the #H9N2 virus collected in 2024 infected more human cells than did a historical sample collected in 1999. The modern version also showed improved binding to various receptors on human cells.» 🚨 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

  6. #Structural and #functional characterization of avian #influenza #H9N2 virus #neuraminidase with a #combination of five novel #mutations, Arch Biochem Biophys.: sciencedirect.com/science/arti

We report combination of novel mutations near the NA active site of an H9N2 strain. The mutations altered surface properties leading to increased substrate binding.

  7. Mapping #Genetic #Markers Associated with #Antigenicity and Host #Range in #H9N2 #Influenza A Viruses Infecting #Poultry in #Pakistan pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/386871

The presence of L216 in all H9N2 IAV isolates and T/V180 in four isolates in the receptor-binding site reveals the potential of these viruses to cross the species barrier to infect human or mammals.
