Summary of RESET Act subcommittee markup last week:
-The House E&C subcommittee replaced the RESET Act with the GUARDIAN Act during a markup
-While the GUARDIAN Act doesn't explicitly ban people under 16 from social media, the bill's provisions would effectively result in an under 16 ban.
-Why? The costs and legal risks associated with implementing a parental consent flow would make it far more trouble than it's worth for most platforms. It would be less costly to just raise the minimum age ceiling to 16.
