  1. I beat #Guacamelee!: Super Turbo Championship Edition this weekend. I got the bad ending (I know there are good and bad endings from the soundtrack song titles), but I knew I hadn't found a lot of things. The game keeps your last save before the final boss, so you can reload and explore more. I haven't been using a walkthrough at any point (despite the complaining of my children), so I suspect I know how to get the good ending, but I don't know where to find the last required secret.

  3. @pteryx I had not, but now that I've read up on Los Tiburon, I am duly amused. And also realizing I could draw inspiration from lucha libre. Though admittedly that's a medium I don't know well -- everything i can think up of a fantasy implementation of it comes from #Guacamelee lol

also lol you had me check. seems like PF2e even pre-remaster didn't have the alignment requirement; it was only in PF1e and D&D3.5e did. i always found those alignment requirements somewhat of an awkward mixing of mechanics and flavor

  4. July 12, 2023 - Day 193 - NewPlay Review
    Total NewPlays: 213

Game: Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition

    Platform: Steam
    Release Date: Aug 22, 2014
    Library Date: May 17, 2019
    Unplayed: 1517d (4y1m25d)
    Playtime: 20m

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (yeah, I'm not retyping that constantly) is not what I expected. It's one of those games I repeatedly skipped over, because I assumed it was a luchador-themed beat-em-up.

Turns out it's actually a 2D Día de los Muertos/luchador-themed Metroidvania brawler mashup.

For a game that's 9 years old, it doesn't play like a game that old. It feels like it could have been released in the last couple of years, and I think that's largely down to the art-style.

It's also multiplayer co-op playable, but I've not had the chance to test that yet.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is:

    4: Good

  6. Giving #Guacamelee another go, this time on #Steamdeck. I've gotten farther than I have before, but it always comes down to the same issue where some of the platforming just requires too much button mashing of 3-4 different buttons and I just can't.

  8. Been playing #Guacamelee 2 on and off with my older daughter (who is now getting really good at it and can do some of the sections better than me, which is nice). It's ostensibly a beat-em-up metroidvania which is great fun, but it also keeps wanting to dip into challenge platformer territory, which I don't appreciate as much.

Fortunately a lot of it is optional challenges, but some of the required sections get a bit too tough for my tastes as well.

  10. 👊 Amazon Luna+ subscribers will soon be able to punch their way through the streets of Kamurocho and Mexican-inspired temples.

Also, Amazon Luna has announced the next line-up of Prime Gaming titles!

  11. Playing a bit of #Guacamelee and although it's a little too "foreignised Mexican" at times (there are just a few details I would change here and there to really make it feel Mexican), I really enjoy the combo qualifiers:

    ¡Vientos!
    ¡Órale!
    ¡Toma perro!
    ¡Pa' su mecha!

Those really tell me, "yes, a Mexican worked on this."

  12. Sorry for lack of CW here, but I just want to loudly proclaim my love for this article:

    escapistmagazine.com/v2/2018/1

A #Mexican #videogame designer explains what it's like to be an expat and how all we ever hear about Mexico in the US and Canada is bad news, "relegated to drug war territory with a hint of piña colada". He made #Guacamelee because he wanted to tell a different story with Mexican heroes (and also because Mexican wrestlers are just good fun).
