I know it sounds really weird to say, but I’m so proud of the LibDems today.
Whenever there’s a by-election, they throw everything at it. But they recognised that doing so in #Gorton+Denton would have muddied the water. They got out of the way and let the Greens do their thing.
Congrats, Greens!

According to Andy Burnham in the @manchestereveningnews.co.uk, Labour have 1000 volunteers out in Gorton and Denton today, while Mothin Ali says the Green Party has 2000 volunteers on the streets.
RefUK don't seem to have mentioned their volunteer numbers.

because while I am sure people are not happy about #Starmer's performance, there is real anxiety & trauma left by the #Tories after we endured a string of increasingly short-lived & short-skilled unelected PMs.

The UK's never-relevant #YourParty is now functioning as two separate factions: pro-Corbyn vs pro-Sultana.
The #ZarahSultana-ite #GrassrootsLeft is proudly waving its ultra-left colours. In the #GortonAndDenton by-election, the Greens #GPEW have a good chance of beating #ReformUK and the so-called #LabourParty ... but the Sultanas are waving their purity test.
Meanwhile, Sultana herself is supporting the Greens. #YCMTSU

I'm hoping that #Starmer will block #Burnham's candidacy, triggering a big fight in #UKLabour between Burnham's soggy centrists and Starmers hard right.
Then Manchester native #ZackPolanski can stand for the Greens, and wipe the floor with the #Starmtroopers' candidate. #GPEW boosted, both factions of the so-called #LabourParty weakened.

If you, like me, are trying to use a #Gorton family single-stroke typeface with a #Glowforge laser cutter (or a #CNC machine or a #Cricut or whatever), and you'd like an easy way to do type layout while keeping everything in the single-stroke vector space, it turns out there is a solution for that (!!): https://msurguy.github.io/cnc-text-tool/
If all of the above is gibberish but you're curious, basically, here's the thing:
- most vector drawing tools (I use #AffinityDesigner) will happily open & use TrueType or OpenType fonts, but their model of a "font" is typically "a closed outline stroke with a fill"
- things like laser cutters and CNC machines love paths/strokes, but they don't grok "fill" (or, in the case of modern laser cutters, they do, but it's finicky and you have to do a lot of trial-and-error tweaking to get the stroke & the fill working together so that the type renders like you want it to)
- there are quite a few sources for single-path SVGs of classic engraving fonts (including Fedi's favorite, #Gorton) but if you want to actually lay out words instead of single characters . . . lotta manual work
- the web application I linked above solves **this specific problem** by letting you do text layout, and then it outputs a single SVG that you can import into your CNC software or into your vector drawing software for integration into your designs -
