  1. @Mer__edith is an extraordinarily clear commentator on the #AI hype and why it is happening right now (not "AI", which is old, but the hype, and who is interested in giving us all the impression that we're at some kind of "pivotal moment" in history). She also tied AI to the massive computational growth connected to the advertisement-surveillance profit model. 5. also, I'm sure they'll "respect the decision" for #NetflixWalkout like Google "respected the decision" of employees in #GoogleWalkout, then quietly push out the organizers months later as they did to @mer__edith et al.

  6. This. Offering PTO, offering to cater the strike, offering to have execs speak at the walkout? that's all an attempt to co-opt the event and turn it into something they can tame and control. We saw it with #GoogleWalkout. https://twitter.com/Gaohmee/status/1420428606614892548

  7. What the headline of every "1 year since #GoogleWalkout" media article should say: "Why is David Drummond still at Alphabet 1 year later?"

  8. See y'all tomorrow morning for my keynote at #devopsdaysNYC bright and early, 9:05am! It's got a mixture of material from my talks, @EmilyGorcenski, and other #GoogleWalkout work.

  9. It's clear that one set of rules apply to executives and another to employees. And that HR wants to get rid of me sooner. I tried to give Google time and a chance to work on the #GoogleWalkout demand as well as hand off my work gracefully. That isn't going to happen :(

  10. Some anonymous colleagues of mine left a copy of the @kateconger @daiwaka @ktbenner #GoogleWalkout article from Nov 1 on my desk for when I got back to work. There still are teal @GoogleWalkout posters posted up around the desks too. <3 <3 <3

  11. I have found my next job (barring Google suddenly becoming cooperative with the #GoogleWalkout demands)! More details to come when I'm ready to announce!

  12. "We’ve seen OKRs, we’ve seen working groups, we’ve seen meagerly funded diversity efforts, we’ve seen ethical councils and self-regulatory promises. None of which have netted in any change, and we continue towards the iceberg." -- @mer__edith explaining #googlewalkout on @Recode

  13. If any employees of Under Armour want to stage a walkout, I'm pretty sure the #GoogleWalkout organizers would be happy to help... https://twitter.com/khadeeja_safdar/status/1059585753859215360

  14. Hi #governance friends.

Looking for feedback on how to best implement the #GoogleWalkout demand for employee board representation.

Here's some interesting reading from way back in 1986 -- "Why America needs, but cannot have, corporate democracy."

  15. Seriously, cheers to the cafeteria workers giving press interviews! Now, we have to protect them from retaliation by Restaurant Associates. #GoogleWalkout https://twitter.com/GMA/status/1058316823207112704

  16. Proud of my fellow @TheCollegePrep alumna @clairewaves for co-organizing #GoogleWalkout. Mens conscia recti.

  17. So #GoogleWalkout is, in my opinion, a huge success. Thousands of Googlers no longer view Google as the end-all best place to work, and everyone got to see swarms of people in every major city protesting Google's mistreatment of women. That's an image that won't be forgotten anytime soon. Perception of the company will change on a huge scale.

  18. This thread. So much this thread. We are building solidarity. Solidarity is the first step towards any form of collective formal representation. #GoogleWalkout https://twitter.com/Picketer/status/1058174634518994949

  19. Wow, that was an amazing global turnout. Much love to everyone who walked out. I'm reading all of the coverage now and we have some serious momentum. Now to buckle down for the harder bit: doing smaller acts of solidarity every day until Google works for everyone. #GoogleWalkout https://t.co/Bc...

RT @[email protected]: All of the headlines that start with "Google CEO supports..." are focusing on the wrong thing.

What matters today is workers' voices and demands.

It doesn't matter whether management claims to support; the real test will be whether the demands are met. #GoogleWalkout

We, Google employees and contractors, will walkout on November 1 at 11:10am to demand these five real changes. #googlewalkout twitter.com/GoogleWalkout/stat

  22. I am still tired and recovering from surgery, so I don't think I'm going to be able to stay awake to remotely watch my home office (NYC) walking off the job at 11:10am ET. Strength and solidarity to y'all. <3 <3 p.s. kudos to the worker PR team, y'all are A++. #GoogleWalkout

  23. From the mouths of the organizers of the #GoogleWalkout. Highly recommend reading. Kudos to each and every organizer, as well as those whose shoulders they stood on. https://twitter.com/ow/status/1057996661635596293

  24. .@ktbenner on @CBSThisMorning: "To see this behavior, and to see it condoned on the highest levels of the company has been extraordinarily upsetting for employees." #GoogleWalkout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=871zAO-Qygg

  25. It costs Sundar nothing to "give" us the time for the walkout. We were walking out one way or another. Substantive change requires giving up a modicum of power and costs more than a gesture. #GoogleWalkout https://twitter.com/rakyll/status/1057878934962851840
