"With the redesigned GlobalScot service about to go into public beta, I thought it would be a good time to use the Good Services Scale to assess how well the service is performing and where it needs to be improved.
"The GlobalScot network aims to connect organisations in Scotland with worldwide business and community leaders who can offer one-to-one support, global marketing knowledge and new contacts."

How we used the Good Services Scale to evaluate the GlobalScot service

We made an interactive version of Lou Downe's Good Services Scale, so you don't have to.

This is also #ServiceDesign
Sometimes, you need to slow people down, and make them think about the next step they take.
#GoodServices flow smoothly, not quickly. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

If you design or deliver services, you can rate them using this simple scale devised by Lou Downe.

Uniformity has its place if we consider the mass production of my coffee mug ☕️. However, we need consistency for the services that we use daily. Because not every situation is equal.
What is your realization about the consequences of mechanical thinking for our everyday services?

Ask any service designer to list their top 5 or 10 people in the industry who have influenced them, and it’s a fair bet that most of them will mention Lou Downe.
Lou literally wrote the book about service design in the public sector in the UK. And pretty much introduced the concept into UK Government.
Alongside This is Service Design Thinking and This is Service Design Doing by Marc Stickdorn, Adam Lawrence et al, it’s a slim volume that has genuinely become canon.

What would it take for the organisation providing the service to be a Platform? 💡
All of those ideas are brewing in my head. I want to spark a discussion in the community and gather your perspectives. 🌱
What practices do you have to create good services? 🙏

Let's use the
@TeamTopologies concepts: any of us is bounded to the limits of our cognitive load. The services that our team and organisation offer to the world can increase or decrease the levels of cognitive load of the people using the service. 🧠This is where thinking about coherence rather than uniformity will help us design good services: can we help the service users achieve their goals safely and effectively?

I observed organisations and teams striving for uniformisation in their service portfolio. ⚙️
Is that a good strategy?
Although uniformisation has a place (large-scale production manufacturing), when we are creating and maintaining services for people, it can hinder people's goals. 🎯
What if we focus on the coherence of services (and actions) rather than uniformity? 🤔
