Today recommended open source to a kindergarten management and showed #deltachat / #ArcaneChat as an example. The management is now dealing with the messenger and will establish it as the standard messenger if necessary

@wodrow nicht ganz. Google greift über die verschiedenen Google-Diensten alle möglichen Daten ab. Besonders krass noch viel mehr in Verbindung mit dem Handy. Die Daten die man "freiwillig ins Suchfenster" eingibt sind wohl am harmlosesten... #goodbyegoogle

Ancient history: I fell in love🥰 with the Apple IIe waaaay back in the early 80’s. Even tho it was monochrome (green on black) it was Superior to my Commodore at home 🏡 in almost all aspects. Thru the years I have happily & successfully supported whatever cheap HW & crap💩ware that other vendors produced, i.e. Atari, IBM, M$, Intel, Google, Alphabet … ¡no mas!

I've been working to remove iCloud and Google Drive as my cloud services.

I have a #Nextcloud account; and this is set as the default for some of my services.

I have moved 99% of the documents in iCloud to Nextcloud, and only half of the included storage is used - which I'm pleased about.

Having said that, I still have photos in iCloud - that's just simpler right now, and I have 200GB of storage anyway; so no extra cost.
Just feels good to breakaway from Google Drive and iCloud.

Next question - how brave do I feel in setting up my own NAS??
That might be biting off more than I can chew. I'll be investigating that some more.

Does anyone have any non-Google alternatives to Google Docs and Drive? I've got a replacement for gmail (moving from Proton to Tuta soon), but have yet to find a good way to store docs in the cloud and work on them in a browser akin to Google Docs.
