  2. And finally, “L’Armonica” AKA “Ah Perché col Canto Mio” is a cantata composed by Italian-German composer, operatic tenor and music educator Johann Adolph Hasse (youtu.be/igxoowwQoOE?is=HJm-Aq). It was composed around 1769 which was only around 10yrs after Benjamin Franklin invented the Glass Armonica!

  3. It was rumored that The Glass Armonica could cause listeners and the instrumentalists themselves to lose their minds. Once word began to spread they were smashed en masse to protect audiences and musicians alike. At the time no one connected the dots between the fact that many Glass Armonicas were made out of lead glass and painted with lead paint 😑

  4. “Adagio and Rondo, K. 617” (youtu.be/u8njeKyBv2w?is=E2SE_V) is a quintet composed by Mozart in 1791(ish). It’s a companion piece to “Adagio in C major, K.356” (youtu.be/QkTUL7DjTow?is=77s3tY). Both were composed during the final years of Mozart’s life for blind, German Glass Armonica virtuoso Marianne Kirchgessner ( June 5, 1769-December 9, 1808)🇩🇪.

  5. “Adagio in C major, K.356” (youtu.be/QkTUL7DjTow?is=77s3tY) was composed by Mozart around 1790. While it’s known for it’s melodic simplicity, the use of the Glass Armonica gives it a memorably beautiful and fragile tone

  8. Musical Interlude: I struggled to find something good for tonight; I had a few ideas, but today's listening was mostly Renaissance-era stuff from Spain, so a bit esoteric. Then I stumbled on this.

For something refreshingly different...here's a full (if brief) concert of music played on a rare instrument, the glass armonica, played by Thomas Bloch at the Malta International Arts Festival last year.
