  1. @markgray92 These are charming - what's the source?
I think we miss a lot of #Regency #SocialHistory by ignoring these amateur artists. Just because they aren't doing Important Art, they're overlooked. I'm a huge fan of #GeorgeScharf (sample here - bityl.co/FmIl - but TBH it's all totally wonderful) and #DianaSperling (ggle.io/5NTN). There are probably 100 other similar, who just aren't fêted.

  2. Here's St George's #HanoverSquarebityl.co/FiEQ. The Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Directory says: "The congregation of this church includes more of the nobility & gentry than will be met with at any other church in the metropolis." Gorgeous #Georgian #architecture & interior.

BUT round the back, #GeorgeScharf (my idol) shows us the lively shops & quirky architecture of #MillStreet. Guess the nobility & gentry didn't go round the back much.

  5. Hitting #London soon to look at #GeorgeScharf #Regency drawings at #BritishMuseum. I don't know any other artist who's so interested in the minutiae of what's happening on the streets, especially shop fronts - just look at the detail of the butcher's shop. Also a picture of Gracechurch Street where Mr & Mrs Gardiner lived in #PrideandPrejudice. Gorgeous drawing but you can see why #MissBingley turned her nose up at the neighbourhood.

I am ridiculously excited by this opportunity.
