Tonight (3 June) is the night! Geomob Belgium 🇧🇪 in Brussels kicks off a month of five different Geomob events across Europe.

6/ As is the Geomob tradition we then voted for best speaker.
It was very close, in the end coming down to a coin flip - the winner was Leonardo. Well done!

5/ Finally, Julien Minet spoke to us about the state of OpenStreetMap railway data in Belgium.
Lots of potential for useful apps, for example a train app for people traveling with their bike.
This however requires very detailed tagging in OSM. Still work to be done here, Julien encourages everyone to get involved.

4/ Third #geomobBE speaker was Leonardo Mauri, telling us about the 3+30+300 guidelines for tree access in Belgium.
The goal is that from each home you can see 3 trees, 30% of space is covered by tree canopy, and every building <= 300m from a park/forest.
HIs company performs GIS analysis to assess progress versus the guidelines and show where trees should be planted.

3/ Next up we heard from Dries Raymaekers of VITO https://vito.be giving us an overview of the current state of using drones for agricultural mapping.
Over the last decade there has been an immense amount of innovation in both the hardware and the software techniques in this space.

2/ First speaker of the eve was long-time Geomob organiser Ed Freyfogle @freyfogle , who came to express his happiness at the start of Geomob in Belgium, and also to reflect on the experience of running Geomob for the past 15 years in London and elsewhere.
Ed shared the Geomob "recipe" that has worked in other regions, while also encouraging the audience to adapt it to the local community.
