  1. Houston! We still have a 4th Amendment!

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that “an individual has a reasonable expectation of privacy in his cell-phone location information.”

Simply stated the ruling makes clear - the 4th Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures and effectively protects privacy rights, APPLIES to LOCATION DATA collected from from cellphones.

Authorities need to obtain a search warrant when asking tech companies for the location data of their users, including when requesting historical geofence location data.

NOTE: some service providers (Google) store users’ location data locally on their devices prompting investigators to go to the users themselves to access this data. techcrunch.com/2026/06/29/in-m #SCOTUS #GeoFencing #GeoFenceData #Mobility #MobilePhones #Privacy #Search&Seizure #Warrant #LocationData #4thAmendment #Constitution #PrivacyRights #DataPrivacy #SearchWarrant #LawEnforcement
