The happy family munched through the whole bundle. The team tried repaired it and tried to avoid further rodent incursions by installing plugs at the free ends.
On 7 December 1998, GEO600 was registered as one of the Projects of the World Exposition EXPO 2000 in Hannover. In the picture you see C. In the spring of 1998 work on GEO600’s growing vacuum system continued. While the north arm was tested for leaks, the east arm was baked out. By fall 1998 the vacuum pressure was low enough to consider the procedure a full success.
During the summer of 1998 the double pendulum – used to isolate the optical mode cleaner from seismic vibrations of the ground – was prepared, assembled, and tested. Towards the end of the year, the control electronics for the pendulum were set up and were found to work excellently. Afterwards the seismic isolation pendulums were installed inside a clean-room tent at GEO600 with the help of colleagues from the University of Glasgow.
