Tonight I attended Dominikus Baur's @dominikus inaugural lecture on "Generative Design and Creative AI" at Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences. An evocative introduction to his field, the role of rules and systems, and the importance of iteration and trimming. Looking forward to following what Dominikus and his students will do in this dynamic field in turbulent times.

Aeolian dune simulation (made in 2017) for #MeerMittwoch:

The images show a screenshot of the JavaScript application to create the simulation and some Houdini renders of exported height fields. The sim itself had 5 macro params to control the behavior of the interactive deposit/erosion/transportation process. It supported tileable patterns, customizable seed terrain (images) and ran realtime at ~30fps. The profile (cross-section) visualization was important because the tool was intended to create traction patterns for footwear...

I’ve just added a blend operator to the Function Playground! With this new feature, it’s now much easier to blend one function into another, or create smooth fade-ins and fade-outs. While similar results are possible with regular function blocks, the blend operator is more streamlined and gives a helpful visual preview of the curve.
