Outaouais resident here (West Quebec) kinda understands.
A radio announcer here stated that this week-end was the height of colour for the maple leaves.
As someone who is immersed in a hardwood forest I would say it was prettiest a few weeks ago when the maples were only hinting at changing colour and still alive with green.
I will soon be desperately hoping for snow.
