Surprisingly thoughtful article about #HeatPumps in the UK. The storyline has stopped being about "5x as efficient" (which most are not) and started to be about "3x as efficient" which most are. It's also pointing out that as gas is roughly 1/3rd of the cost of electicity, an electric heat pump will still cost a much to run as a gas boiler. so they won't reduce your fuel bills. And you may have to do significant work on an existing system to make it more efficient as heat pumps only produce low grade (low temperature) heat, such as INCREASING the size of your radiators, and improving your standard of insulation (both of which are beneficial to gas boilers or heat pumps). So the key to widespread implemention is decoupling the cost of electricity from the cost of gas, which is wholly in the government remit, and is the reason energy companies are making HUGE amounts of profits while many struggle. #TacticalVoting will pay off.
