Whitney Mitchell, who was engaged to Foster before his death at the hands of Perry, laid out her feelings about the pardon in a statement sent to the Observer.
“I loved Garrett Foster. I thought we were going to grow old together. He was the love of my life. He still is. I am heartbroken by this lawlessness,“ she said. “With this pardon, the Governor has desecrated the life of a murdered Texan and US Air Force veteran, and impugned [the] jury’s just verdict. He has declared that Texans who hold political views that are different from his—and different from those in power—can be killed in this State with impunity.”

I'm going to be honest and say #DanielPerry is lucky I'm not #GarrettFoster's father, because there is nothing in this world that would save him from me if he wasn't in prison.
I'm fine with prison, because I believe in the social contract and don't believe in capital punishment, but if the state isn't going to honor justice, game on. -

Perry was convicted of murder in the death of 28-year-old #GarrettFoster, who was legally armed w/ an AK-47 rifle, during a 2020 confrontation in downtown Austin at a racial justice demonstration.

On Friday, a jury found #DanielPerry, 28, guilty of killing #GarrettFoster, 27, during a demonstration in Austin. Perry is white, as was Foster.
Perry's attorneys argue he acted in self-defence, but prosecutors say he instigated the confrontation.
Governor #GregAbbott said he would pardon Perry as soon as an official request "hits my desk".

The right-wing position is that everyone should be able to carry guns everywhere, and in fact should be encouraged to. And that it's silly to be afraid just because some guy has an AR-15 at the coffee shop or at a protest. But if the armed person is the wrong sort (like a BLM protester), then it's perfectly OK to shoot them, and if a jury convicts you the governor should pardon you. #DanielPerry #GregAbbott #GarrettFoster
