Pont du Gard, part of a 31-mile aqueduct that supplied 11 million U.S. gallons of water per day to the Roman city of Nemausus (now Nîmes). Conduit was apparently coated with a mixture of olive oil, lard, and fig juice to facilitate water flow. #gar #gardon #roman #aqueduct #water #history #nimes #france #travel #river #engineering #provence

Gisteren ontdekte ik het project #BridgesOfMastodon (started by @Damiansixx_ ) ik houd van bruggen, boten die er onderdoor varen, over de leuning hangen enzo. Yesterday I found out about the #BridgesOfMastodon project. I love bridges, boats under them and leaning over the railing. This wonderful bridge #PontduGard spans the river #Gardon, (south of France) it was built in the 1st century as an aquaduct meant to bring water to lower cities. Lateron the lower part (20ft wide) was used as a bridge.
