Ganesh y la ciencia del pensamiento en el Sanatana Dharma
Un análisis sobre la deidad con cabeza de elefante y su lugar en el día a día de la India.
Ganesh es una de las figuras más importantes y queridas dentro de la vida de la India. Físicamente se le reconoce de inmediato porque tiene el cuerpo de un hombre gordo y la cabeza de un elefante con un solo colmillo. La historia cuenta que es el hijo de los dioses Shiva y Parvati, pero más allá de los relatos familiares de la mitología, este personaje tiene un papel práctico en las actividades de las personas. En los hogares, las tiendas y las oficinas se suele colocar una figura suya justo encima de las puertas principales de entrada para que cuide el espacio.
La función principal de Ganesh es limpiar el camino de los seres humanos. En la tradición se le conoce como Vighneshvara, que significa el señor que quita los obstáculos. Las personas recurren a él cuando van a empezar algo nuevo en su vida, como abrir un negocio, mudarse de casa, realizar un viaje largo o incluso antes de presentar un examen escolar difícil o firmar un contrato comercial. Su tarea es hacer que los proyectos avancen de forma tranquila y sin imprevistos pesados.
Cada parte de su cuerpo tiene un significado directo que sirve como una guía de conducta diaria. La cabeza grande de elefante representa la inteligencia y la capacidad para pensar las cosas a detalle antes de actuar. Las orejas grandes indican que hay que saber escuchar a los demás y poner atención a lo que pasa alrededor, mientras que la boca pequeña recuerda la importancia de hablar menos y evitar los chismes. El colmillo roto que sostiene con una de sus manos simboliza que hay que dejar de lado el orgullo y hacer sacrificios personales para poder terminar las metas que iniciamos.
A un lado de sus pies siempre aparece un ratón pequeño que es su medio de transporte oficial. Este detalle no es una simple ocurrencia del arte antiguo, ya que el ratón representa los deseos humanos y los pensamientos desordenados que se mueven rápido de un lado a otro y pueden causar problemas. Al tener al ratón bajo su control, Ganesh demuestra que la mente y los antojos deben dominarse mediante el uso de la razón para que no arruinen los planes de la persona.

¿Sabían que las primeras figuras y estatuas de Ganesh tienen más de 1500 años y datan de los siglos IV y V?
Aunque las historias y leyendas de este dios con cabeza de elefante son muy antiguas, los arqueólogos han descubierto que su culto formal empezó a grabarse en piedra durante la época del Imperio Gupta. Una de las pruebas más claras del pasado es una estatua de mármol blanco del siglo V que se descubrió en Afganistán, la cual lleva una inscripción escrita a mano que lo nombra de forma directa.
Al mismo tiempo, en la India, exactamente en la Cueva número 6 de Udayagiri, hay otra escultura tallada directo en la roca que se hizo en el año 401 por órdenes del rey Chandragupta II. Esto nos demuestra que la gente ya quería y respetaba a esta deidad en muchas ciudades y rutas de comercio de Asia mucho antes de que se escribieran los libros religiosos más famosos sobre él.
