  1. A few years ago I posted this on FB and it came up in my memories. Two Nice Girls were fantastic. (I Spent My Last $10 was a mixtape staple for years.) youtu.be/iIwl5VrqEfw

  3. @Phil @barnetboy Joe Fineman had, imo, the last word on Napoleon as history: "Napoleon, like Stalin, inherited a revolution with liberal and internationalist pretensions, and turned it into an instrument of imperial foreign policy. He had the use of fellow travellers in foreign countries, who took a lesser or greater while to catch on to his betrayal." But as folk song I like Napoleon's Dream.

“Like a soldier I've been in the heat and the cold,
As I marched to the trumpet and cymbal,
But by dark deeds of treachery I have been sold,
While monarchs before me have trembled.
Now rulers and princes their station demean,
And like scorpions spit forth their venom and spleen,
But liberty soon o'er the world shall be seen,”
As I woke from my dream, cried Napoleon.

Richard and Linda Thompson did a version of Napoleon's Dream
