I love this view of the #SouthDowns taken from the #Falmer Road. It's such a perfect English countryside, with the patchwork of fields and rolling hills. Also good buzzard country, which is why I was there. #Brighton #Sussex

That was good! I went out with the camera for the first time in ages. I was heading to our local pond but on the way drove past a field and spotted a red kite circling around. While red kites are increasingly common in many parts of the country we have had relatively few in this part of Sussex (Brighton). I've been waiting patiently for years for them to extend their territory this far south and east. I parked up on my way back from the pond and sure enough the kite was still there. The light was poor and these aren't great shots, but given their local scarcity seeing this less than a mile from my home was a real treat. With luck there will be many more (and better) sightings in the future. #raptor #BirdsOfMastodon #RedKite #Brighton #Falmer

We went for a walk around our local pond today, at #Falmer - in the shadow of the #Amex Stadium (home of #Brighton & Hove Albion). There were lots of greylags, some moorhen and - inevitably - plenty of herring gulls. #Birds #BirdsOfMastodon

I spent an hour or so bird watching at our local pond at #Falmer, just outside #Brighton . Surprisingly few water fowl, but there were plenty of small birds to brighten up the day. Here's a charming little blue tit. #BirdsOfMastodon

I popped along to Falmer today. It's better known now as the home of our local football team (and two universities), but the original village dates back to Saxon times and at one time was part of the estate of Anne of Cleves and then Thomas Cromwell. The current church was erected in 1817, but the site is much older. Behind is a 13th century barn, one of the largest of that age still in use. #Falmer #Brighton #SouthDowns #AnneOfCleves #ThomasCromwell
