I finished this miniseries on Netflix and man, it was really good. Excellent writing and blending of Poe's work.
A heavy-handed speech in the last episode, while truthful about consumerism will piss off some, but it wasn't a lie.
This was as good if not a bit better than Midnight Mass.

I just finished The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix, and wow, that was masterful. I suppose I can understand why some fans of Poe and gothic horror might dislike it though. This had horror elements to it for sure, but overall, it felt more like a fusion of Black Mirror and Succession than a straight Poe adaptation. For what it is, it's excellent.
There were several elements of it that kept reminding me of my novella Dreck. But while FHU is horror with technodrama mixed in, Dreck is more technodrama with horror mixed in. Definitely both Faustian tales, which I guess is supernatural horror, but Dreck leans more toward cyberpunk, and of course #dreampunk.

I just finished watching the new Mike Flanagan series on Netflix. The Fall of the House of Usher. Eight episodes, kinda based on Edgar Allen Poe stories and poems. I don’t think I am spoiling anything, but I can’t tell for sure. If you’re planning on watching it and you’re sensitive to spoilers then maybe now’s the time to stop reading this post.

I have seen all of Flanagan’s Netflix shows. I haven’t seen anything else he did. House of Usher is better than Bly Manor. Probably better than Midnight Mass. Definitely better than Midnight Club, though that’s not a knock on Midnight Club, I enjoyed it very much. It’s not as good as Haunting of Hill House, but that’s because nothing is as good as Hill House. That show was amazing.
Like most of his shows, I watched up to the last episode thinking that I was enjoying the series and yadda yadda blah. Then you get to the finale and oh my god the horror genre show turns into this massively emotional roller coaster that you did not see coming, even though after five series we probably should see it coming.
My spoilerish comment here is that I teared up over Lenore. Nevermore.

Just watched #FallOfTheHouseOfUsher with my server and lo and behold, there it is. It's one of the things I didn't like about the new #InterviewWithTheVampire series either.
Also, I can't help but feel like the sexuality of the Ushers (bisexual, promiscuous, cuckolding???) is supposed to emphasise that they are bad people. Very disappointing.

It felt like the angriest #MikeFlanagan story yet - angry at #capitalism, #nepotism, #corruption, #DomesticAbuse, all abuse of power really, and the inability of any court to confront all those things -
