Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #evolutionarycomputation, aggregated by home.social.

  1. As my findings in my #GeneticProgramming research are becoming more and more thorough, I have started to document them. The main problem in my runs is still lack of diversity.

PS: It could be nice if we could write papers in some dialect of #markdown

PS2: These writings are for myself to remember where am I and where I'm going. No academic paper yet :)

  2. Getting back into working on #83: algorithmically evolving analog computing patches to produce HD electronic image sequences. Trying to channel the specific anarchistic potential of evolvable hardware into the production of images.

  3. I'm really enjoying my latest research project. This one's exploring how different spatial environments can lead to different evolutionary dynamics. Here we see an environment where it's harder to survive in the middle than on the edges (that is, it requires higher scores from a fitness function). We can see the population evolve increasing fitness as it spreads into the interior space.

  4. Just checked #EvolutionaryAlgorithms and #EvolutionaryComputation tags. And I found posts from just two: myself and @moshesipper

It's time to feel scientifically lonely :)

But really, why some people like me are attracted to less or more unpopulated regions of science and engineering?

  5. New paper out ✒️😊

We present a novel approach to performing fitness approximation in #geneticalgorithms (#GAs) using #machinelearning (#ML) models, focusing on dynamic adaptation to the evolutionary state.

  6. Later this month, I’m going to present my first academic paper at the Genetic and Evolutionary Computing Conference (GECCO) in Melbourne, Australia. I’ll share the full paper once it’s officially published. For now, I wrote a blog post about the journey from experiment to paper, what this work means to me, and where I hope to go from here. If you’re curious about what the heck I’m actually doing with this Evolutionary Computation stuff, check it out!

  7. I've finally finished my traditional NEAT-based evolver of "interesting" Game of Life patterns. It sucks! But, now I'm convinced that it sucks, not because of my code, but because of the limitations of this algorithm. That's perfect! 'Cuz now I get to use it as my control for something way more interesting.

Now for the fun part. :blobcat_engineer:

  8. I'm having a lot of fun developing my custom, GPU accelerated implementation of the NEAT algorithm, even though it's extremely challenging work. Currently beginning to tune the evolutionary algorithm for managing a diverse population of neutral networks.

  9. God willing, my #paper will be ready in about a month.

I'm gonna name it "WakeGP: Efficient and accurate wake word detection using linear genetic programming"

Also #GECCO 2024 is close. Not sure if it's better to present there or publish it a journal like #MIT #ECJ or #IEEE #EC

It is important for me that my paper will be accessible for everyone under a #free_content licence

  10. New blog post: A nice book to get into Evolutionary Computation

I review “Evolutionary Computation, A Unified Approach” (2006) by Kenneth De Jong, which seems like a great “Intro to EC” book for me to hand to new students.

  11. @UlrikeHahn

The vital importance of a platform for effective #SocialReasoning and #DecisionMaking came into clear focus for me about 2004.

Robert Wright's _Non-Zero_ was a catalyst at that time, while my studies in #EvolutionaryComputation and a strong #SystemsThinking mindset, along with an understanding of the essential importance of #perspective and #context, laid some of the groundwork.

This was before we saw that social media would be gamed into narrow silos and echo chambers.
