  1. Heads up to Everand readers. While I was setting up the next story in my Real Hot Games series, I discovered that Everand is no longer allowing erotica at least through Draft2Digital.

In case they didn't notify you about that change to their service, I felt like it was worth making sure you were aware. It may not have any impact on you but, if I were an Everand customer, I would cancel my subscription over that.

  2. Curious. If you belong to a subscription e-reading service, which one do you use?

    ➡️ 1. Kindle Unlimited
    ➡️ 2. Kobo Plus
    ➡️ 3. Everand (formerly Scribd)
    ➡️ 4. Nook Unlimited
    ➡️ 5. Other

Let me know in the comments! Thanks!

  3. News Summary: Kobo Partners with Storygraph; Everand and Fable Launch Combined Subscription

It amazes me how often news items come in pairs. And this week sees one of those prima facie unlikely pairs, either of which would be interesting and unusual. The theme? E-book platforms announcing partnerships with social reading apps. Kobo…

  4. I went to re-up my Everand subscription and discovered the new membership tiers - basically, in Australia, I’m paying $26.99 to “unlock” three books for the month.

I mean, technically, I still have access to the “unlimited” portion of the catalogue but the vast majority is behind the lock.

So, on the one hand, much more expensive for less (I think it used to be about $15 for the month, and I’d get between 4-6 books before I lost access to the limited items).

On the other hand, for the very expensive non-fiction books that I can’t get through my library/hoopla, costing upwards of $20 for ebook and far more for audiobook, it still works out better.

But for anything that costs less than $9 it’s a no-brainer to buy it, and anything more expensive that I want to actually own.

The big thing they should have done was allow the purchase of more unlocks during the month, I’ve run through my three in the first week. I have to wait to January to buy another three (and then that will be it for the foreseeable future, as I purged everything that wasn’t worth using them for.)

But by the same logic, with writer hat on, I can’t see me getting any more sales through Everand, because people can buy my ebooks for less than an unlock is worth.

My next book, Grace & Favour, releases on Sunday, and is a friends-to-lovers gay romance:

“Leo Sweetwater keeps three closely-guarded secrets: his affections lie with men, he's in love with his best friend, and he's been haunted since childhood by the ghosts of Hampton Court Palace. When an ill-advised fling threatens all three secrets, Leo must contend with malign forces, and not just those from beyond the veil…“

Look for it on preorder at your favourite retailer, or on #KoboPlus, #Everand and #Hoopla, and you can always ask for it at your library.

Or you can get it right now directly from me: payhip.com/b/A3P2i
And receive a bonus 2026 calendar featuring public-domain nineteenth-century artworks illustrating relevant book quotes.

I write fantasy with romance, mostly queer. My next book is out November 16 and features the ghosts of Hampton Court Palace, a Maremma named Max, and a friends-to-lovers gay romance.

Might be on preorder at your favourite retailer, definitely will be available on #KoboPlus, #Everand and #Hoopla, and you can always ask for it at your library.

The cities that surround #YEG are similar, with all kinds of best sellers on the shelves. However, our urban library has an amazing #MakerSpace, where I taught myself to sew, and a fabulous kitchen, where I'm gradually learning to cook new things.
For reading, I've gone pretty much full #audiobooks and a combo of #everand and Libro.fm keeps me in excellent reading material. I just decided that I should aim to read one dead-tree book/month for the dark season, since I have an impressive collection of them!

  8. @Rooneyverses
Oh, excellent recommendation, thanks! I love fox spirits of all Asian varieties. I purchase #audiobooks from Libro.fm, but this is also available on #everand, which allows mulitple downlads/month from their catalogue.

  9. @adriabailton thank you for hosting #writephant today 😊

I write cosy-adjacent (fun but not as fluffy as they sound) queer romantic fantasy*, usually stand-alone. Find out more at my website:

    wendypalmer.au/books/

They’re available widely including on #KoboPlus, #Everand and #Hoopla, or you can request them through your public library.

*not romantasy though. Not epic, low on drama, older leads, no love triangles, no dragons 😊

  13. @suzisteffen
Libro.fm is solidly OK, providing a large catalogue of #audiobooks and supporting #LocalBookshops. However, there are many things that are wonky about their website. As a Canadian, I'm unhappy about the need to pay in $USD, which means that prices vary widely.
I use #Everand for the bulk of my audio and ebooks, since it's very affordable and has a wide range. Just not always the specific book I want to read, when I want to read it.
Paid for #Pachinko so I can reread it

  14. @hollie Libro-fm is where I go for books I'm really impatient to read. Especially in Canada, it's still a bit pricey most of the time. For the majority of my (audio) reading needs, I subscribe to #Everand, unlimited #audiobooks and #ebooks from their substantial selection. They just won't have some of my niche choices. Although I love libraries, they don't work so well for my needs because one desired book arrives exactly as I'm in the middle of another desired book. #AmReading #bookstodon

  15. @Violinknitter I do the vast majority of my reading with #everand, a reasonable monthly subscription and I get a few special books from Libro.fm. For dead tree books, the seniors’ centres have a fabulous selection for $1 or take one, leave one.

  16. @McRocker The problem with Libby is that the requested book tends to arrive right when I’m in the middle of another engrossing read! I’ve used #scribd, now #everand for a very long time for the majority of my reading needs. A great selection for a low monthly rate.

  17. @Likewise
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm very much a part-timer in the Fantasy genre but there are a few good ones that make me happy to veer in that direction. Lots of her books (audio and ebook) are available through #Everand, my reading platform of choice.

  18. It’s #SmashWords’ 15th annual Read an Ebook Week starting today (March 3). So many ebooks on sale from 25-100% off, available at smashwords.com/shelves/promos. It’s a great chance to try out new-to-you indie authors (and practice sideloading non-DRM books to your device too 😊 ).

Mine are all 50% off. I write fantasy novels with romantic subplots. Not dark, but not as fluffy as they sound either.
    smashwords.com/profile/view/we

They’re also available on #KoboPlus and #Everand and the usual ebook retailers if Smashwords isn’t your thing.

Seniors' centres, where excellent trade paperbacks in blood condition usually sell for $1-2. Still, I prefer #audiobooks and have unlimited access to a great selection for a reasonable monthly fee through #Everand.

  20. The grief I didn't need today:
#Scribd is now - at least the part of it I use - #Everand . It says there is an issue with my account when I try to sign in, so I have to change my password. There is no option to do this. So I can't sign in to change my password, I try a new password in the sign-in space thinking this must be something new. No, now I can't get in at all and must contact customer support. (It has been a real joy to prove a half-dozen times that I'm not a robot too - NOT!)...I haven't paid monthly subscription fees all these years for this grief. UGH! SO frustrating!
