  1. Leaving the hustle and bustle of a city. Boarding a train from their downtown railway station at dusk, and immersing into the cosy atmosphere of a sleeping car cabin: one of the many things that make night train travel incomparable to other means of transport, in my opinion at least. #ÖBB #Nightjet #EuroNight #465/40465 leaving #Zurich🇨🇭HB is my home for the night.

  2. Today’s post is a “would have” one. Today, 15 April 2026, would have been the first day of operation of the #Basel🇨🇭#Malmö 🇸🇪 #EuroNight #472, stopping, en route, at various stations in #Germany 🇩🇪 and #Denmark 🇩🇰, and operated by #BTE #BahnTouristikExpress.
Lacking government funding, the operation of this train was eventually cancelled. (And, a few weeks ago, I got a refund for the ticket I bought.)
A shoutout to all who really tried hard to get this train running!

  3. #Milano 🇮🇹 Centrale, one December morning in 2007: #Trenhotel #Talgo #Euronight “Salvador Dalí”, from #Barcelona 🇪🇸, has just arrived, hauled by a #Trenitalia #FS Class E.656 #Caimano electric. The train is visible on the left. On the adjacent track, we see the nose of a Class E.444R #Tartaruga.

  4. #Basel🇨🇭to #Copenhagen 🇩🇰 by train, over night. This was possible when I took this photo of #CityNightLine #CNL train “Aurora” in August 2006, and it might become an option again in 2026 with #SBB introducing a Basel to Copenhagen and Malmö #EuroNight service.

  5. The #SJ 🇸🇪 #Stockholm to #Hamburg and #Berlin #EuroNight is a #SleeperAndEater train as it includes a buffet counter which is staffed by a lovely steward. One can buy drinks and food here, to be enjoyed in the adjacent seating section of the car.

  6. #Zurich🇨🇭HB in November 2016. #EuroNight #459 #Canopus has been provided at the platform in view of its 19:42 departure for #Prague 🇨🇿 via #Leipzig 🇩🇪. Visible in the foreground is the Czech #ČD Sleeping Car in its classic dark blue livery and named after the city of #Kroměříž.

  7. Evening at #Firenze 🇮🇹 station in April 2010: this is #EuroNight 226 #Palatino, on its way from #Rome to #Paris 🇫🇷, hauled by an #FS Class E.402A electric. The first car behind the loco is an #SNCF couchette, followed by #Trenitalia ones. There should also be a @diningcar somewhere in the consist.

  8. A screenshot from the #Zurich🇨🇭HB webcam footage this morning: #SBB #Re420 Re4/4 11109, in #SwissExpress #Cremeschnitte livery, is pulling the colourful consist of #Euronight #Canopus from #Prague 🇨🇿 away from the platform and to the yard. The train also conveys #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #nightjet through cars from Berlin 🇩🇪.

  9. #Brussels 🇧🇪 Midi in the very early 2000s: this is #EuroNight #EN225 #Donauwalzer for #Munich 🇩🇪 and, as the name suggests, #Vienna 🇦🇹. The Munich portion is positioned right behind the #SNCB #NMBS Class 27 electric, the first car being a #DB sleeper, displaying its blue livery.

  10. #Genova 🇮🇹 to #Vienna 🇦🇹 with #ÖBB #Nightjet, displayed as #EuroNight on the departure board. I’m travelling in a #couchette car of the #Jenbach type. These comfortable carriages were originally built in the early 1980s and have received several upgrades since.
    Good night!

  11. #Firenze 🇮🇹 station: boarding #ÖBB #Nightjet to #Vienna 🇦🇹, labelled #EuroNight on the departure board. An ÖBB 1216 #Taurus is hauling the train.
I kept a bookmark from an Austrian timetable booklet in the early 1980s, advertising the night train #Remus, Rome to Vienna, running basically on the same timeslot.

  12. The couchette compartment of #EuroNight #EN40462 was a former DB one run by #Hungarian railways with the blue #couchettes. Four out of six being sold. Aircon was working ok for most of the time, but not all the time... Managed to get some sleep 💤 At #Buchs, I got interrogated by Swiss customs. Guten Morgen #Schweiz!

  13. #SleepingCar content from a couple of years back: on board #Euronight #Zürichsee - from #Graz 🇦🇹 to #Zurich🇨🇭 in an #ÖBB WLAB AB30/P sleeper. This is the former #CIWL “type P” #4538 after a substantial transformation, yet the old CIWL number is sill visible on the under-frame and it is engraved into the opening window.
The #Arlberg line is closed for works: this is why we travel, in August 2011, on a slightly northerly route via the #Allgäu 🇩🇪, hauled by two DB class 218 diesels.
