'Nearly 400 millionaires and billionaires from 24 countries are calling on global leaders to increase taxes on the super-rich, amid growing concern that the wealthiest in society are buying political influence.
'An open letter, released to coincide with the World Economic Forum in Davos, calls on global leaders attending this week’s conference to close the widening gap between the super-rich and everyone else.
'The letter, signed by luminaries including the #actor and film-maker Mark Ruffalo, the #musician Brian Eno and the film producer and #philanthropist Abigail Disney, says extreme #wealth is polluting politics, driving social exclusion and fuelling the #climate emergency.
'“A handful of global #oligarchs with extreme wealth have bought up our #democracies; taken over our #governments; gagged the freedom of our #media; placed a stranglehold on #technology and innovation; deepened #poverty and social exclusion; and accelerated the breakdown of our planet,” it reads. “What we treasure, rich and poor alike, is being eaten away by those intent on growing the gulf between their vast power and everyone else.

@thetonearm Before my dad passed away in 2011, I'd look at photos taken of him, and would consider that the latest photo taken of him as an old man, was the "real" him.
Once he passed away, I had an epiphany that my dad, in fact, existed equally in all of the photos taken of him.
He transcended time.
I think the Eno documentary treats Enos career in a similar way. The editing allows Eno's entire career to speak with equal importance.

@thetonearm We watched the documentary with Eno and its really well done.
This may be difficult to express, but a documentary usually follows a person's career as a linear progression.
Here, all parts of Eno's life is expressed equally. Slipping forward and back following a discussion. The result is that Eno exists equally in all points of his life. Fascinating.
I'd like to think we all deserve to view our own lives that way.

Two masters collaborating for the second time; most effectively on the beautiful title track, and the near 29 minute headfuck that is “An Index Of Metals”, which takes up the entirety of Side 2, which simmers and drones, becomes more distorted, disturbing and disfigured as it unfolds.
Truly one of the fifteen or so best #ambient #minimal albums of all time.

@rossgrady - I was browsing the #eno tag (really whatever triangletootparty pulls in with that tag) after walking out there this morning - saw this post of yours from last November - and thought I'd share that I finally saw my first watersnake of the year today (and also my first there, or any of the creeks/rivers since Chantal too).
Seems rather satisfied and well fed, if a little chilled today.

Yesterday my whole nuclear family was here at home, now the college kid just landed back at LGA, and my wife and the high school kid are on a road trip to visit another Big Ten school, and I have the house to myself.
Seems like a good afternoon to play some #Eno on #vinyl. For a long time I didn’t care for this album because its tape-collage approach seems kind of arbitrary and formless compared to some of his other #ambient works which even though they sometimes sound haphazard are often based on an underlying formal methodology. The On Land stuff is more just a collection of various textures, and recently I’ve begun to really like it for that. It’s just a friendly intuitive human sort of thing, improvisational in a way really.

Could you do the same thing with fiction? On the face of it, it sounds like it’d be too expensive, but then I thought: the final season of Stranger Things (for example) was cut down from 650 hours of footage, not all of which would’ve needed expensive post-production work.

I absolutely applaud the insanity of this. A (non-AI!) generative #documentary about Brian #Eno; there are more segments than can fit in the #film. The director didn’t assemble them; instead, they curated the connections and transitions between the segments. Within those constraints, software assembles a random film, live, in the cinema. It’s never the same film, but it always makes sense (apparently.)

In the description of the photo I called the plant there an "underwater moss" - and because I knew that wasn't probably anywhere near anything resembling scientific accuracy 🙂 - I went looking for what it probably is.
I think it is "riverweed" or

A park ranger and student? volunteer? passed behind me and I got to talk to them a bit - they mentioned this was the first controlled burn in that part of the park they've done (it's been closed off since #chantal giving park staff a rare opportunity to do this without impacting visitors)
He mentioned he was looking forward to see how the forest responds.

"I can feel the heat from where I am sitting" would be a good opening line for an 80's cover band just before they launch into Wham!
At any rate - watching Cox Mountain burn today was surreal and amazing. The light through the smoke on the river was just something else - it was right up there in terms of visual experience with the last partial solar eclipse on the Eno.
