I recently contributed a bunch of code to #Emacs #EMMS. As a result I was invited to join the development team which I'm excited to be a part of.

My code was merged last week for version 23 of EMMS. There was a small breaking change.

There is now an entire system for searching and filtering tracks. It's backwards compatible with the old browser filters, but very different and very powerful. It is interactive and all filters can be represented as data.

It's super cool and very enjoyable to use.

I wrote a post to give an overview to it on my shiny new website here.

I like #EMMS a lot. I've recently become one of the developers.

That said, I'm not sure I'm the average Emms user.
I use the browser, most people seem to use #Emacs dired.
I also use mpd as my music server which isn't the most popular from what I can tell.

It has a tag editor, playlists and streaming. I've seen a number of posts to connect it to elfeed for handling tube channels and podcasts using VLC.

It's been around a long while, the nuts and bolts are all there, it's solid.

I'm currently working on the browser as I am unhappy with it. My new filtering and searching system is getting close to ready.

    Have you thought about mpd?
    Music player daemon.

    Check the arch wiki.

It has a bunch of front ends from cli, to curses, to GUI. I kind of like some of the curses ones.

    I use it with #emacs #emms .

  19. Last night I saw an exciting #YouTube video from #DistroTube that convinced me to try #emacs in the #doom version again. Yes, I was one of those simpletons who thought emacs was "just" an editor like #vim. Shame on me and you can all laugh mockingly.

The video also showed the first steps. I managed to do that with a few pull-ups. #emms plays music, although a long list with thousands of music tracks is not comfortable. And #RSS #feeds work too, even if I'm still struggling with the operation. Conclusion so far: it still needs some getting used to. #Linux #Arch

#Linux #Arch

  21. Today's fun (between annoying medical stuff) is screwing with EMMS. I'm slowly getting it but I agree with a stack exchange question I saw that said it's difficult to get into coming from years of GUI media players.

    #emacs

  22. Am I the only one that finds the increasing use of *transient* in #Emacs intrusive and/or annoying? I know I'm old-skool but I kind of like the invisible interface in modes like #gnus and #emms where I can type a sequence of keys to get what I need done without a popup appearing. There's always `C-h` at hand to help if I need it.

Transient does have its place of course, e.g. #magit which would be impossible to use otherwise but that's more a reflection on #git than anything else.

  23. Hey users, what are some good online streaming stations to check out?

  24. The presentation was really excellent. The audio quality was clear, it was very informative, and it got me happily playing with EMMS again. Well done, yrk.

  25. I'm really enjoying Yoni Rabkin's talk on . I'm rewriting my init.org file as he talks about stuff that I missed in my config.

  26. Having moved away from Spotify and other streaming services and starting to use #emacs #emms, I found decade old burned CDs that needed meta tags. orys.us/vd

  27. EMMS makes for a halfway decent music player on my phone.
