Now what?
Apparently gave up around 19:55 and even a power cycle doesn't fix it... #P1 #DSMR #smartmeter

Been working on writing a 'better' library for talking to Kamstrup meters using the KMP protocol. This works using the IR 'optical eye' module which does bidirectional communication.
And... I'm getting there! 😃 Decoding variable-length floating point registers is uh oldskool... 🤯
Next steps: getting this into Telegraf/InfluxDB & HomeAssistant!
#python #pytest #opensource (soon) #DSMR (it's not, but related) #smarthome #energysaving #homeassistant

@alexis I'm fortunate enough to live in Belgium and have a digital #SmartMeter which supports the #DSMR spec (very compatible with stuff). So basically, our electricity meter is wirelessly linked to our gas meter. By hooking up a little dongle to the P1 data port of the meter, you get very detailed data from both gas/elec. Which even includes voltage and amperage of each individual phase (our pharmacy has three phrase elec coming in). All in #HomeAssistant

I made this small WiFi dongle to submit #DSMR serial data over UDP to socat. Socat creates a pty that can be opened as serial device by #openhab. This setup mitigates having a extremely long USB cable between the meter and the openhab host. Finally I can use smart meter info without my suppliers website

#LinusTechTips on #WesterDigital #WDRed #NAS HDDs that weren't sufficiently marked as using Device-managed #ShingledMagneticRecording (aka #SMR or #DSMR), and thus caused issues when used with #ZFS: https://youtu.be/aztTf2gI55k
