  9. "Disabled People Against Cuts ( #DPAC ) and other #disability rights groups will be protesting against the various #genocides the #government are funding abroad, as well as the democide of #disabled people they are directly causing here. The protest will take place on Monday 29 September, between 12-2pm at the wheel of Liverpool (L3 4FN)."

  10. Music in the lobby at the #DPAC for this #MJLenderman show was The Weather Station, but here in the auditorium itself it’s the Smumps*

Is that why everyone was sitting on the benches out in the lobby?

  12. CW: Attacks on Disabled people, PIP, UK politics

...Attacking PIP is a further attack on independent living, disability rights and existence. The amount of money we are expected to survive on - and if not able to work, make do with no options to get additional money (or rely on things like family, which has a range of problems with it. Obviously mutual aid a big help here for many) and if can work, face additional barriers to employment e.g. lower pay - is at a disgustingly low level already. This strengthening of attack against Disabled people, timed for the UK local and general elections, is sadly predictable and incredibly dangerous. We will fight back, together; for instance Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) has committed to direct action as part of this. Fuck this system of power and divide and rule. Solidarity to all people affected by this, you're not alone. As Disabled people have always done throughout history, we'll fight back against this bile and hatred, together. Everything for everyone. We keep us safe.

  13. "On Monday, March 4th, Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) returned to the streets...The protest, which was called two days before the budget, began at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) with speeches and then moved a few yards to Victoria Street, which was then blocked with wheelchairs, strollers and activists with banners for around an hour." freedomnews.org.uk/2024/03/05/ #DisabledPeopleAgainstCuts #DPAC

  14. DPAC return to the streets
This followed a meeting held on February 19th to declare a united resistance of disability groups against the latest round of brutal welfare cuts.

  15. #DPAC rocks. Lucky to live so close to such an exceptional theater. They get great concerts as well as theater shows.

  16. "Paula Peters, another DPAC steering group member, said the end of Atos assessments was “welcome news”, but other companies carrying out assessments were “still denying disabled people financial support and denying disability and causing distress and harm”. She added: “We’ve a lot of campaigning to continue with.”"

  17. CW: Important analysis on the intensifying divide and rule narrative regarding chronically ill and disabled people and 'benefits':

"He [prime minister Rishi Sunak] also became the latest member of the government to compare the proportion of those now found not fit for work (65 per cent) after an assessment with the same figures in 2011 (21 per cent).

Like his fellow ministers, and many media commentators, he has ignored the fact that the 2011 figures reflected the early years of the work capability assessment (WCA), before its most serious flaws were exposed.

It took years of activism and research by disabled people and allies to expose the links between the WCA and hundreds, and probably thousands, of deaths of claimants, and to force DWP ministers to ease the harshness of the assessment.

That eventually made it easier to qualify for the employment and support allowance (ESA) support group and avoid work-related conditions, although the test continues to be linked to serious harm and multiple deaths."

  18. CW: Longish post reflecting on comments today by Jeremy Hunt, Chancellor of the TERF, plague 'Kingdom' that is the UK:

Central to this is late capitalism, as we see furthering of gross inequalities and the corresponding drive of divide and rule politics to distract from said inequalities. Even though this is no surprise and things will get worse regardless of whether the Tories or Labour win the next election, I have found my mood really affected by this discourse and rhetoric today and also thinking about what this will mean in terms of day-to-day impact on disabled people's lives as we battle with the state on a daily basis, with it already such an ideologically brutal system. As always, we have a fight on our hands and we have to do this together, collectively, through mutual aid, radical communal care, to look after and be there for each other against the state, the gaslighting and the punitive practices and institutions.

  19. Again we've got a piece of news that isn't good, but I wanted to share it to highlight the heroic disabled people who travelled to Geneva when the UK government couldn't be bothered. Thank you all - I can't thank you enough for fighting for us.
