    "WHAT'S GOING ON?

We received a report about racism and police violence in Rotterdam. We're worried the police will erase the evidence, as so often happens, so please share this post and speak out:

    #DontDeleteTheFootage

An Ivorian-French engaged couple were celebrating their love in Rotterdam, but they faced racism from a Rotterdam public transport officer. The woman was ultimately arrested by multiple police officers using excessive force by the Rotterdam Police.

    RACISM BY RET

After brunch, Anne and her fiancé took the tram back to their hotel in Rotterdam. During a ticket inspection, they were asked to show their tickets and IDs. They did not have tickets because they were unaware that tickets had to be purchased on the tram and their IDs were still at the hotel. They were then asked to get off the tram. They tried to pay the fine, but Anne's card was declined. That's when one of the RET employees allegedly said: "It's always you Black people. We're used to it."

What happened next escalated, and Anne was ultimately arrested by multiple police officers. Anne took out her phone and asked him to repeat that. In response, her phone was thrown on the ground. Broken. She was forcibly detained by four employees and was hit several times. Her glasses were broken too.

WRONGFUL ARREST BY THE POLICE OF ROTTERDAM

Instead of receiving help after the alleged racist incident, Anne was immediately put into a police van. She was handcuffed and, according to her account, punched multiple times.

At the Doelwater police station in Rotterdam, Anne was placed in a police cell. She resisted being put inside, and officers forcibly pushed her into the cell. During this, they stood on her hand, causing a serious injury to one of her fingers and significant bleeding.

According to Anne, the doctor who examined her was shocked by the injury. However, a police officer who was present reportedly claimed that Anne had caused the injury herself.

    NOW WHAT?!?

What began as a ticket inspection escalated into a situation involving alleged racism, a forceful arrest, and a serious injury. Anne is now seeking answers about what happened and why.

It's always you Black people. We're used to it.

CALL TO ACTION: PRESERVE THE FOOTAGE

After two days (!) in the police cell, Anne was released. The reason was that footage showed she had been badly beaten. Yet Anne is still being prosecuted. She has to appear in court in January 2027. That's why it's so important that the footage is preserved: the bodycam footage and the footage of what happened at the tram station. All of the footage is in the possession of the police.

You can help us by sharing this and letting the Rotterdam police know that we're watching: don't delete the footage!"
