El peligro de cambiar nuestra libertad y nuestra voluntad a cambio de una falsa promesa de orden absoluto
Cuando pensamos en el villano Doctor Doom la mayoría se queda con la imagen superficial de un genio con armadura de metal que busca conquistar el mundo por simple maldad. Sin embargo el verdadero terror que esconde este personaje de historieta va mucho más allá de sus poderes y se encuentra en su faceta como gobernante de una pequeña nación llamada Latveria. En ese lugar no existe el hambre ni la pobreza y las calles gozan de una seguridad perfecta que cualquier gran ciudad del mundo real envidiaría de inmediato. El gran problema que pocos alcanzan a notar es el precio invisible pero destructivo que los ciudadanos deben pagar por vivir en ese supuesto paraíso y que consiste básicamente en entregar su alma su voluntad y su derecho a pensar.
Desde la perspectiva de la conducta humana este personaje representa el perfil del dictador totalitario que camufla su obsesión de control bajo la promesa de cuidar a los demás. Debido a los traumas y pérdidas que sufrió durante su infancia su mente desarrolló un pánico extremo al desorden y a la incertidumbre. Para calmar ese miedo interno necesita que absolutamente todo a su alrededor funcione exactamente como él quiere y ve el libre albedrío de las personas como una amenaza directa. Para este líder dejar que los ciudadanos elijan por sí mismos es darles la oportunidad de equivocarse y crear caos por lo que prefiere anular la identidad de su pueblo tratándolo como si fuera un ejército de robots que debe obedecer sin chistar.
Esta dinámica psicológica nos muestra que la supuesta bondad de estos perfiles es en realidad una trampa de manipulación sumamente peligrosa. No se trata de un líder que busque el bienestar de su gente por amor sino de un ego enfermo que exige adoración obligatoria y que utiliza el orden social como una herramienta para validar su propia superioridad. Quien se atreve a cuestionar sus decisiones o a expresar una idea diferente no solo es castigado sino que es borrado por completo del sistema, históricamente no dista mucho de los dictadores reales de América Latina o de Europa Qué han existido y aún existen.
Analizar a este personaje de cómic nos invita a reflexionar sobre cómo algunas relaciones o estructuras poderosas nos ofrecen protección y estabilidad económica pero con la condición oculta de arrebatarnos nuestra libertad de decidir recordándonos que un entorno seguro no vale nada si dejamos de ser dueños de nuestra propia vida.M. Marvel Ultimate Alliance with Perry Constantine (Superhero Cinephiles, Japan on Film)
This week on play comics we ask ourselves what happens if you you can’t decide what you want to make a game about. Should you just give up? Should you really dig into your soul and decide what you’re super passionate about? Should you look and see if there’s any other related media coming out that you can tie this game into? Or should you act like you’re at the end of five different boxes of sugary cereal and justice dump the mall into a single bowl and see what happens?
There’s certainly one thing that I made my mind up about this one, and that’s how Perry Constantine from Superhero Cinephiles and Japan on Film needed to come by and help me make sure that I kept everything straight here. And it’s a good thing too because with more playable character than I want to count spread out across 7 consoles upon release and a few more as back catalogs were taken advantage of it would have been really easy to miss something here.
So was there an actual story for this game? Or was it just a giant excuse to squeeze in as many tidbits as they could so the other kids would think they’re cool? You’ll have to listen to find out!

Another unpopular run that I really enjoyed was #FantasticFour by #SteveEnglehart and #KeithPollard. In this run, #MrFantastic and #InvisibleWoman leave the team, replaced by #Crystal and #MsMarvel, with #TheThing leading the team. Drama unfolds As The Thing struggles to keep the team together while dealing with the fact that his long time girlfriend #AliciaMasters married the #HumanTorch, Ms. Marvel deals with the mental repercussions of a recent traumatic event, a recently married Human Torch realizing his feelings for Crystal are alive and well and Crystal herself looking to move on from her own marriage with #Quicksilver, while also harboring feelings for the Torch. And this is JUST the first couple of issues of the run!
